UNDER 11s:KIRKHAM JUN 0 YMCA 1YMCA completed their league season at Coronation Rd last Sunday with a narrow victory to achieve a 24-game 100% league. They were generally on top throughout the first half but were unable to penetrate a stubborn Kirkham defence and it remained goalless at half time. Without every finding their normal fluency YMCA continued to push the home side back after the restart and after a host of chances had been squandered they eventually broke the deadlock with a strike by Keiran S, his 75th goal of the campaign. Even though many more chances were created YMCA failed to add to their total and had to settle for a single goal victory. YMCA will now be looking to complete the double when they take on Poulton Youth in the Hogan Cup Final at Bloomfield Rd next Sunday. UNDER 12s:YMCA 3 ST ANNES FC 0A tight first half saw no goals although Fraser M and Corey C were both unlucky with efforts that struck the bar. After the restart YMCA had the stiff breeze behind them and Ryan A opened the scoring for YMCA from close range early in the half and this was followed shortly after with a header by Jack W. He followed up well after the visitors’ ‘keeper could only parry a shot. Jordan B sealed the points for YMCA with a well taken solo effort and Oliver D was unlucky with a free kick which struck the bar. ‘Keeper William N made two fine saves for YMCA and both teams contributed to a very entertaining contest. UNDER 15s:BLACKPOOL RAN 5 YMCA 0YMCA lost their skipper Chris B in the opening minutes with a head injury which required hospital treatment. They were unable to take advantage of the stiff breeze in their favour in the 1st half against title chasing Rangers at Moor Park last Sunday and it was the home side who broke the deadlock and led 1-0 at half time. After the restart Rangers began to take control of the game and assisted by a couple of YMCA errors at the back they added a further four goals. YMCA had two late chances to make the score more respectable but the lively Taz M was unable to convert either. Nathan A was outstanding at the back for YMCA with James P and Jonathan B notable also. UNDER 17s:YMCA JUN 4 FLEETWOOD GYM 2In the sunshine at Seafield Road last Sunday YMCA put in a lethargic and below par first half performance which to their credit the visitors capitalised on by scoring early on and then again just before half time. Sandwiched in between was a solo goal from Sam T and Fleetwood led 2-1 at the break. Adam W then equalised at the start of the second half as YMCA started to exert some pressure. Then came a Jake D double, the second being a smart chest down and finish from 10 yards. Fleetwood continued to play their part in the match and the YMCA defence had to be constantly on guard. This was a vital three points in YMCA's challenge for the title. UNDER 17s:LYTHAM SEN 1 YMCA SEN 1Both teams had to settle for a point apiece in this local derby last Sunday. The first half was evenly contested but YMCA reached the interval 1-0 ahead with a goal by Aron K. Lytham though edged the 2nd half and grabbed a deserved equaliser inside the last 15 minutes. YMCA created a couple of chances to clinch victory late in the game but a draw was probably a fair result in the end. Mattie W and Joe O both had fine games for YMCA. UNDER 12 GIRLS:YMCA 2 LAMMACK 3 (NVL CUP FINAL)YMCA came out second best in a close and exciting cup final last Sunday. They dominated the early stages but fell behind when a Lammack free kick was misjudged. Lammack quickly added to their lead when defensive errors gave them two clear scoring opportunities to put them 3-0 ahead at half time. YMCA fought hard in the second half and were eventually rewarded when Millie G scored from the edge of the area and a second quickly followed from Evie M. With time just 2 minutes YMCA were awarded a penalty but unfortunately, they were unable to take the opportunity to level the scores with the Lammack ‘keeper pulling off an outstanding save. This was a very spirited team display by YMCA though against a physically stronger Lammack outfit. ----The views expressed on this page are those of the contributor and the opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the BBC. |
