UNDER 9s:

YMCA A 8 SOY A 0 YMCA B 5 SOY B 0

Newly crowned champions YMCA were, as expected, too strong for strugglers Spirit Of Youth at Seafield Rd last Saturday. They completely dominated the A game, Owen F leading the way with a fine hat trick. Kit G and Jordan M weighed in with two goals apiece with a strike by Adam T completing the rout. Spirit showed a little more resistance in the B game but again, YMCA were always too strong for their plucky opponents and all YMCA’s goals came from different scorers. They were Josh C, Kai L, Jordan K, Isaac F and Tommy H.

UNDER 11s:

WARTON TYPHOONS 0 YMCA 6

YMCA were always too strong for a plucky Warton outfit at Bank Lane last Sunday. They started brightly and after going close a number of times they eventually took the lead in the 10th minute through Keiran S. YMCA continued to have the upper hand and Andy C doubled their lead shortly afterwards. Warton did have chances but found YMCA ‘keeper Liam M in solid form and it became 3-0 at the break with a second strike by Keiran S. After the restart the irrepressible Shaw brought his match tally to four with two further goals and YMCA completed the scoring with the best goal of the game, Jamie M netting with an exquisite chip following a superb 6-man move.

UNDER 12s:

YMCA 1 LYTHAM JUN 2

This was a physical encounter at Seafield Road on Sunday that saw the visitors take all three points. YMCA took the lead early in the first half with a well-executed finish by Jack D. Lytham responded shortly after with a well-taken strike and then took the lead with a close range header. The home side applied significant pressure in the second half and were unfortunate when a Jordan B shot hit the Lytham post. YMCA were unlucky not to win a penalty late on and Keil F came close to converting an Oliver D free kick. William N had a good game in goal for YMCA.

UNDER 13s:

CLIFTON RANGERS 1 YMCA 7

YMCA came away with a comfortable victory after a fine team display at Mereside Park last Sunday. They were on top from the start and gradually built up a 3-0 lead by half time. To the home side’s great credit they always tried to play neat football but found the YMCA rearguard, in particular Louis M and Saul T, in excellent form. YMCA’ s central midfield pairing of Jamie A and James R continued to dominate the middle of the park in the 2nd half as YMCA added a further four goals before the end. The outstanding Matthew C bagged an excellent hat trick with Mattie K weighing in with two superbly taken goals. Jack H completed YMCA’s scoring before Rangers bagged a deserved late consolation with a well worked goal.

UNDER 14s:

CLIFTON RAN 5 YMCA 2

Without several key players this was always going to be a stiff hurdle for YMCA at Boundary Park last Sunday. Rangers were on top throughout the 1st half and took a 2-0 lead into the break but their lead could have been more but for some superb goalkeeping for YMCA from Jack C. YMCA suffered another blow when they lost their influential captain Alex G with injury but they started the 2nd half showing commendable character. Jason W soon pulled a goal back and within minutes they were back on level terms with a superb Harry H free kick. The superior physical strength of the home side told in the latter stages though and they notched a further three goals to record a comfortable victory. Jon H and Joe K both had fine games for YMCA.

UNDER 15s:

YMCA 2 KIRKHAM 5

YMCA were seriously depleted for this tough hurdle against their high-riding opponents at Seafield Rd last Sunday. They only had 12 available players which included two goalkeepers but they still more than held their own in the first half. They shook the visitors but taking a 25th minute lead with a low drive by Max B and they doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Eddie J latched on to a long ball by Joe VB and coolly lobbed over the advancing ‘keeper. It remained 2-0 at the break but with the stiff breeze behind them Kirkham began to assert much more pressure on the YMCA’s defence. The visitors pulled a goal back with a fierce 20yd drive and they drew level 5 minutes later with a spectacular wonder-strike from just inside YMCA’s half. YMCA visibly tired after this and with Kirkham now looking rampant they bagged three further goals in the space of 5 minutes to take home a the points. Nathan A, Ashley J and Jonathan B all shone for YMCA with Harry F also notable.

UNDER 17s:

Hogan Cup Semi-Final:

YMCA JUN 2 LYTHAM SEN 3

YMCA were always going to find it tough going against their year older opponents for a place in the Hogan Cup final, but they dominated the opening 30 minutes in the sunshine at Stanley Park Arena. Two efforts were ruled offside before Sam T cleverly turned and finished into the top corner to give YMCA the lead in the 28th minute. However a well taken equaliser was followed by a deflected free kick, and YMCA found themselves unfortunate to be behind at the break. Their cause was not helped by a defensive mix-up early in the second half that led to Lytham's third and despite all their efforts, YMCA could not find a way back into the match. The game finished with a late flourish as firstly YMCA were reduced to 10 players, and then Dalton S, who was excellent throughout, pulled a goal back with a far post header but it was all too late. Matty R and Dan M worked tirelessly in midfield, and both Adam W and Dan H put in good performances.
