YMCA

By Lozz Rose
Good wins for YMCA's U9s, U10s, U11s, U12s and U14s. The U13s crashed out of the Cup though.

UNDER 9s:YMCA A 3 THORNTON A 2YMCA B 6 THORNTON B 0

YMCA went well clear at the top of the table after collecting all six points at Seafield Rd last Saturday. In the A game they took command early on and soon went ahead through Jordan M and they made it 2-0 at half time with a Kit G strike. However, after the restart Thornton began to display some great fighting qualities and netted twice to level the scores again. YMCA recovered well though and in the closing minutes they regained the lead when Jordan M set up Kit G to snatch what proved to be a winning goal.

In the B game the two teams were evenly matched in the first half and at half time the scored remained at 0-0. It was a different story after the break though with YMCA taking total command of the game netting six times to run out comfortable winners. The impressive Josh C bagged a hat trick with Rhys M, Tommy H and Jordan K all on target, too.

UNDER 10s:THORNTON A 0 YMCA A 2THORNTON B 2 YMCA B 4

YMCA started the A game brightly creating chances before taking the lead after 10 minutes with the hard working Dylan S firing home. Shane D and Jordan W were a constant threat on YMCA’s flanks but it remained 1-0 at the break.
The second half saw YMCA continue to have the upper hand with James R and Cameron S both outstanding.

Jordan W had an effort cleared off the line before firing home YMCA’s second. Jordan M, Alex M and Ryan W also shone.

In the B contest YMCA played some outstanding football and two superbly executed goals from excellent Bradley G, his second a header from a fine Conah B cross put them 2-0 ahead.

Just before the break Thornton pulled one back from a penalty kick and they came well into game the second half. They deservedly grabbed an equaliser as YMCA were caught napping but within 30 seconds Carl K regained the lead for YMCA with a fine finish before Bradley G then completed his hat trick with a bullet header from a corner. Connah was excellent throughout with Matt S, Jack C and Oscar T all notable also.

11-A-SIDE

UNDER 11s:WARTON TYPHOONS 0 YMCA 9

Despite not finding their usual fluency YMCA still proved to strong for a plucky Warton outfit at Bank Lane last Sunday. A goal from Keiran S gave them the lead which was quickly doubled by a Linus W strike. Keiran S then bagged his 2nd of the game before a Jamie M goal made it 4-0 at the interval. The second half followed a similar pattern with YMCA always in control. The prolific Keiran S completed his hat trick with the impressive Linus W and Jamie M both notching their 2nd goals of the game. Daniel L and Ben C completed the scoring for YMCA for whom Johnny M was outstanding throughout.

UNDER 12s:KIRKHAM 1 YMCA 5

This was a well-earned victory for YMCA at Coronation Road, Kirkham on Sunday. Ryan A opened the scoring after 2 minutes latching on to a Fraser M through ball. Although YMCA continued to create chances the first half ended with this one goal lead. After the restart a fine Fraser M solo effort doubled the visitors’ lead before Corey C got on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal. Kirkham then pulled a goal back but Harrison K put the issue beyond doubt with two well taken goals. Ben S and Liam R both impressed for YMCA.

UNDER 13s:YMCA 1 WALTON LE DALE 3Lancs FA Cup 3rd Round

YMCA’s County Cup campaign came crashing to a disappointing end. The opening period was evenly contested with chances at either end. It was YMCA though who broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, Matthew N capitalising on hesitancy in the visitors’ defence to fire home from a narrow angle on the left. As the half progressed Walton came more into the game and they hit the crossbar twice before notching a deserved equaliser with a well struck shot to make it 1-1 at the break. After the restart though YMCA just failed to compete and the visitors seemed to display much more determination and always reacted quicker to all the loose balls all over the field. YMCA were also guilty of relinquishing ball possession far too easily and it was no surprise when the visitors scored twice more before the end to clinch a deserved victory. Daniel F, James R and Jack H were all notable in an overall below-par YMCA team performance.

UNDER 14s:YMCA 9 WARTON TYPHOONS 0

YMCA were on top throughout this encounter at Seafield Rd last Sunday. They reached half time 4-0 ahead and added a further five goals in a generally one-sided 2nd half. Alex G capped an outstanding performance by bagging a hat trick with Jonathon H and Tom M both pitching in with two goals apiece. Jason W continued his good form adding another goal to his season’s tally to complete the scoring. Every member of the squad played well for a YMCA team which showed great spirit and they all worked tirelessly throughout. The match was well refereed by Thomas H.

UNDER 15s:YMCA 0 FOXHALL 3

With four players all ruled out through injury this was a much-depleted YMCA team to face their physically stronger opponents at Seafield Rd. However, YMCA displayed great character and fighting qualities throughout and it was only after they understandably began to tire in the latter stages of the game when the visitors won the game by a flattering scoreline. YMCA’s determination helped to keep the game goalless until 15 minutes from time when an unfortunate error allowed Foxhall to break the deadlock.

Two minutes later the visitors doubled their lead with a fortuitous deflection from a free kick and in the last minute of the game slack marking from a corner gifted Foxhall their 3rd goal with a free header. Chris B and the outstanding Harry F worked tirelessly in YMCA’s midfield with Ashley J, Nathan A and James P all putting in gutsy performances.
