7-A-SIDE:UNDER 10s:LYTHAM JUN A 0 YMCA A 0LYTHAM JUN B 0 YMCA B 1 YMCA dominated the A game from start to finish with excellent free flowing football. But for an excellent goalkeeping display from the home keeper they could have had the game won by half time with Captain Carl K outstanding throughout. He always showed great strength and came close on to scoring on numerous occasions. James R, Ryan W, Jack C and Conah B all had chances but YMCA couldn’t find a breakthrough. Oscar T was also notable. The B contest was a closer game with the home team having the edge of possession, twice hitting the bar and forcing excellent saves from YMCA ‘keeper Alex M. YM soaked up the pressure and always looked dangerous on the break with Jordan W shining throughout. His excellent work and shot from down the left forced a good save but Shane D was on hand to fire the loose ball home. Cameron S and Dylan S also came close. Matt S and Bradley G worked well for a YMCA side who were on the back foot for much of the game. 11-A-SIDE:UNDER 11s:SOUTH SHORE 0 YMCA 14Runaway league leaders YMCA proved far too strong for a plucky Shore outfit scoring 7 goals in each half at Common Edge Rd last Sunday. Jamie M and Tyler D both capped outstanding displays with hat tricks apiece with top scorer Keiran S claiming three goals also. Linus W weighed in with a pair and strikes by Dan L, Calvin R and Andy C completing the rout. Johnny M was impressive throughout also. UNDER 12s:YMCA 4 CLIFTON RANGERS 1YMCA were in determined mood against a feisty visiting side at Seafield Rd last Sunday. Andrew W and Jordan B made good crosses into the box in the early stages without a positive result but it was a through ball to Jack D who put the home side ahead early in the first half. Rangers came back with a vengeance and it was only superb goalkeeping by Mathew M and a header off the line by Mathew R which prevented them from equalising. Both Liam R and Jack D had chances for YMCA and although they should have been ahead by a larger margin, it remained 1-0 at the break. In the second half Rangers levelled but almost immediately after from an excellent cross by Andrew W, Ryan A scored to restore YMCA’s lead before Jack D added his second despite pressure by several Clifton players. Ryan A showed excellent close control in front of goal to add a fourth goal for YMCA. Keil F was excellent in the centre of defence and Corry C was always creative in midfield. UNDER 13s:SOUTH SHORE 2 YMCA 1YMCA were a little unlucky not to take anything out of this hard fought game at Common Edge Rd last Sunday. Shore started the brighter and deservedly took the lead but YMCA came back well into the game and grabbed an equaliser through Mattie K 10 minutes before the break. It remained 1-1 at half time and the second half began evenly but midway through the half Shore regained the lead and YMCA were unable to find a second equaliser. James R and Dave M were both outstanding at the back for YMCA with Matthew C always causing a threat to the home side down the left. UNDER 14s:YMCA 2 CLIFTON RANGERS 0A tremendous team performance gave battling YM all 3 points against a strong Clifton Juniors at Seafield Road last Sunday. The early exchanges produced some quality football and in the tenth minute Alex G fed a superb ball to Tom M who lashed it across a surprised and helpless keeper into the top corner of the goal. This shook Clifton into action and only some stout defending from Josh V, Sam S, Joe K and man of the match Adam L prevented an equaliser. Jack C produced a stunning save just before half time to preserve a slender lead. Rob C, Alex G, Oscar R and Tom M worked tirelessly in midfield and up front Jason W and Jonathon H chased and harried at every opportunity. With the clock ticking down and Clifton pushing for an equaliser, Jonathon H latched onto a great through ball and to YMCA’s delight he tucked the ball into the far corner of the net past the advancing keeper to complete a very impressive afternoon’s work. UNDER 17s:YMCA SEN 9 CLIFTON SEN 0 Although a depleted 9-men Clifton outfit battled hard throughout they were generally outplayed at Seafield Rd last Sunday. Mattie W gave YMCA an early lead which was doubled by Luke A to give YMCA a 2-0 interval lead. Clifton’s 2-man disadvantage told in the 2nd half though and as they understandably tired YMCA took complete control. Mattie and Luke both notched their 2nd goals of the game and Rick S weighed-in with a hat trick. Strikes by Martin W and Adam H completed YMCA’s victory. UNDER 17s:POULTON YOUTH 0 YMCA JUN 1Despite heavy pitch conditions at Cottam Hall, these two teams served up an entertaining end-to-end encounter. YMCA's Sam Turnock created the first chance for himself with a tricky run through the Poulton defence, but shot over the bar. The Poulton keeper then made a fine save from Jamie G's effort from the edge of the box. At the other end YMCA keeper Adam B was in good form making a number of important stops. It remained 0-0 at half time and the only goal of the game came with 17 minutes remaining and it was Poulton old boy Matthew R scoring on his first return to Cottam Hall. He was fouled on the edge of the area and from the resultant free kick he bent the ball around the wall into the bottom corner. Late on Adam W curled a left foot shot just past the post following an inch perfect pass from the excellent Dan H. Dalton S was outstanding at centre half and Dan M impressed in midfield. Referee Graham Nixon also deserves credit for his excellent performance. UNDER 12s GIRLS: YMCA 6 AGSA 1YMCA had an excellent victory against a spirited AGSA side last Sunday. The game remained even until the 20th minute when a dazzling run from Siobhan F was finished with a shot low into the corner of the net. YMCA then stepped up a gear and two quick goals from Jenny H followed to make it 3-0 at the break. In the second half a flowing YMCA move was finished by Stephanie V and further goals were added by Sophie L and Ruby L. AGSA scored a consolation goal from a late penalty. ----The views expressed on this page are those of the contributor and the opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the BBC. |
