UNDER 9s:YMCA A 0 LYTHAM JUN A 1YMCA B 1 LYTHAM JUN B 2YMCA were toppled out of the Colts Cup by neighbours Lytham Juniors in this quarter final tie at Seafield Rd last Saturday. Both games were hard fought tussles but in the A game a goal in each half by the visitors gave them a solid cushion to take into the B game. Jacob H was notable throughout for YMCA. Lytham’s overall lead was increased further with a goal in the opening minutes of the B game and they added another to put the tie well beyond YMCA’s reach. Josh C notched a consolation goal for YMCA but Lytham went through by a 4-1 aggregate victory. Jordan K was outstanding for YMCA. UNDER 10s:YMCA A 1 F’WOOD GYM A 0YMCA B 1 F’WOOD GYM B 0YMCA started the brighter team in the A game and played some excellent football in this Coulton Cup quarter final at Seafield Rd last Saturday. Only for an excellent display by the Gym ‘keeper they could have had the tie over by half time and his only fault led to YMCA’s goal as Crawford was quick to react to a rare spillage. YMCA ‘keeper Ryan M produce a good save from a rare Gym effort on goal . In the second half YMCA continued to press with James R and Oscar T both in fine form but they couldn’t add to their total in this excellent team performance. In the B game though YMCA were lucky to go in at half time without conceding a goal as Gym applied much of the early pressure. Matthew S and Robert M stood strong in defence and Bradley G was outstanding throughout. In the 2nd half though YMCA, began to find their usual fluency with Johnny A always dangerous on the wing. Some excellent Jordan W corners could have produced more goals but the closest YMCA came was when Robert M hit the bar as did Bradley G with a well-struck free kick. However they sealed the tie when some excellent work by Johnny A led to a cross for Salmon to slot home and clinch a 2-0 aggregate win. 11-A-SIDEUNDER 11s:ST ANNES FC 0 YMCA 6YMCA ran out easy winners of this local derby at Blackpool Rd North last Sunday. They took an early lead when Kieran S converted a spot kick and although many more chances were created it still remained 1-0 at half time. In the 2nd half though YMCA began to totally dominate the game with a scintillating display of flowing football which the home side just couldn’t cope with. They launched wave after wave of constant attacks with some brilliant teamwork and flair and the highly impressive Kieran S notched another three goals to bring his goal-tally for the game to four. Strikes by Jamie M and Andy C completed victory for YMCA for whom Giles H, Calvin R and Daniel L were all outstanding in a superb all-round team performance by the visitors. UNDER 12s:SPIRIT OF YOUTH 4 YMCA 1 (Hogan Cup 1st Round)YMCA opened the scoring in this competitive cup-tie against Spirit when Ryan A turned and hammered home a close range effort. The visitors could not hold onto their early lead though and Spirit got an equaliser when a loose ball after Matthew M’s fine save was forced in by a Spirit attacker. Spirit then took the lead with an unfortunate own goal although Andrew Walkden was unlucky not to score with efforts just wide and over the bar. Spirit increased their advantage in the second half with two well-taken goals but YMCA responded with a Ben Saunders shot that hit the post and a Corey Coates effort which was well saved. Fraser Maclaren impressed throughout in YMCA’s midfield. UNDER 13s:YMCA 3 ST ANNES FC 0Following two successive defeats YMCA produced their best display for some time in this local derby at Seafield Rd last Sunday against a useful looking St Annes side. They controlled the first half with some excellent football and the outstanding Dave R gave them the lead with a well-taken goal. YMCA’s lead was doubled with a strike by Saul T and a further goal from the excellent Matthew N gave them a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time. The second half was a little closer and although not able to add to their first half lead YMCA still remained in control with some fine defensive play preventing the visitors from getting back into the game. Dan W and Jamie A impressed throughout for YMCA with emergency ‘keeper Dave M producing a solid display also. UNDER 14s:SPIRIT OF YOUTH 1 YMCA 0YMCA were desperately unlucky not to come away with anything to show from a totally committed team display at Common Edge Rd last Sunday. They contested and fought for every single ball in a thoroughly gutsy and determined team display which deserved at least a share of the points. A goal in the first half gave Spirit a half time lead and the result was always in the balance as YMCA displayed tremendous character right to the very end. UNDER 15s:YMCA 1 SOUTH SHORE 6This was always going to be a tough task for YMCA after four players had cried off for various reasons on the morning of the game. A much depleted YMCA outfit were still very much in the game against the champions until the latter stages on the first half before Shore grabbed three goals in a 10-minute spell to take a 3-0 lead into the interval. Two further goals from the visitors within 15 minutes of the restart put the issue beyond doubt and although the hard working Taz M did pull a goal back for YMCA Shore netted a sixth before the end. Nathan A in the centre of a forced re-shuffle of YMCA’s reaguard was solid throughout with Jonathan B also giving a determined display. The absence of four key players though proved just too much of a handicap for YMCA following their six successive victories. UNDER 12 GIRLS: LAMMACK 4 YMCA 1YMCA suffered their fist defeat of the season away at Lammack last Sunday. The game was evenly contested in the first half with both sides failing to carve out any real scoring opportunities. In the second half though Lammack over ran the YMCA midfield and were ahead after only 6 minutes of the restart and a second quickly followed. YMCA fought back well though and pulled a goal back with a Millie G header but as they pushed forward in an effort to save the game Lammack twice broke away and netted two further goals to seal the game. ----The views expressed on this page are those of the contributor and the opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the BBC. |
