UNDER 11s:YMCA 9 SPIRIT OF YOUTH 0YMCA proved far too strong for the visitors at Seafield Rd last Sunday and the game was virtually over in the opening 8 minutes when YMCA shot into a 2-0 lead. For the remainder of the 1st half YMCA were in total control and Spirit struggled to cope with their fast flowing football and another three goals were added to make it 5-0 at half time. YMCA didn’t start the 2nd half though with the same fluency until the final quarter of the game when they added a further four goals to complete a comprehensive victory. Keiran S bagged four of the goals to bring his tally for the season to 52 with Calvin R and Linus W both notching a pair apiece. Giles H was their other marksman. UNDER 12s:WARTON TYPHOONS 0 YMCA 10YMCA returned to winning ways in emphatic style at Warton last Sunday. They were far too strong for their plucky opponents and goals came at regular intervals as they netted five in each half. Jack D and Jordan B led the way with a hat trick apiece and Jack W weighed in with a pair. Liam R and Corey C completed YMCA’s scoring. UNDER 13s:YMCA 2 SQUIRES GATE 4Tiredness in the later stages of this entertaining contest cost YMCA the points at Seafield Rd last Sunday. The first half was very even as play swung from end-to-end. YMCA had a let-off in the 15th minute when a shot from the left by a Gate player saw the ball strike the far post before it was cleared. 5 minutes later YMCA broke the deadlock when Danny F burst through the middle before finding Jack H who fired home. Soon afterwards though Gate netted a deserved equaliser with a soft goal but YMCA quickly regained the lead in spectacular fashion when Lewis A latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the Gate penalty area and fired in a shot which went in-off the crossbar. This gave YMCA a 2-1 interval lead and they started very brightly after the restart. They calved out several chances without being able to convert any, but as the game reached its latter stages they appeared to tire which allowed Gate to come right back into the game. A draw looked on the cards though until the visitors netted twice inside the last 5 minutes to snatch victory. Danny was outstanding throughout before limping off before the end with a hamstring injury. UNDER 14s:SPIRIT OF YOUTH 5 YMCA 1A first minute strike gave YMCA a shock lead at Common Edge Road last Sunday when Kyle T’s superb corner was helped in by Jason W. Some good defensive work by a strong back four of Veranikas, Slack, Kennedy and Levin and a couple of class saves by goalkeeper Chamberlain kept Spirit at bay until the dying minutes of the half. YMCA always looked dangerous going forward, pressuring the home defence into errors and Spirit were a little fortunate to be on equal terms at half time. Man of the match Alex G produced a typically gritty performance throughout and Molloy battled well in midfield as Spirit proved the physically stronger side in the second half. They added 4 more goals to give them a rather flattering score line but YMCA played some entertaining football and can take heart from their overall team performance. UNDER 17s:YMCA SEN 3 THORNTON SEN 3Both teams contributed well to a highly entertaining contest at Seafield Rd. It was the visitors who opened the scoring with an early strike but Ben S soon put YMCA back on level terms. It wasn’t long before Thornton regained the lead but battling YMCA levelled again with a well taken goal by Mattie W and just before the interval a Ben S strike put YMCA ahead for the first time in the match. It remained 3-2 at the interval and the game continued to swing from end-to-end in the second half. It looked as though YMCA were going to finish take all 3 points until 2 minutes from the end the visitors grabbed a last-gasp equaliser but a draw was probably a fitting result to this excellent game. Luke A and Aron K were both outstanding throughout for YMCA. ----The views expressed on this page are those of the contributor and the opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the BBC. |
