UNDER 10s:

YMCA A 3 THORNTON A 0

YMCA B 2 THORNTON B 1

These 6 points enabled YMCA to go joint top of the table with it all to play for when they play their final game. They were kept at bay by Thornton and couldn't find the breakthrough until the last 10 minutes. A magnificent display by the Thornton 'keeper denied Carl K, Shane D and Jack C on numerous occasions before the outstanding Jack C opened the scoring for YMCA from 20 yards.

They doubled their lead with an excellent team goal, when every player touching the ball including keeper Ryan M before Dylan S fired home. Jack completed the scoring after rounding the keeper and finishing superbly from a narrow angle. All three goals in the B game came in the first 4 minutes. A great passing move from YMCA finished with an excellent finish from Cameron S but straight from the kick off some poor defending gifted the visitors an equaliser but immediately after Jordan W beat three visiting defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot to restore the lead.

After this it was a very even game with both teams creating chances. Jordan W, James R and Conah B all hit the woodwork with good efforts but YMCA couldn’t extend their lead. Oscar T and Matthew S were notable.

11-A-SIDE

UNDER 11s:

SQUIRES GATE 0 YMCA 11

YMCA clinched the title of the Southern section of the league with five games still to play with this emphatic victory at School Rd last Sunday. The game was all over by half time as YMCA turned round 7-0 ahead and they added four further goals in the 2nd half. Keiran S and the outstanding Kinus W both notched hat tricks but the best goal of the game came from Calvin R who latched on to a clearance by the home ‘keeper and lobbed the ball into the net from 30yds.

Dan L, Andy C and Tyler D added further goals with ‘keeper Liam M also on target from the penalty spot with his first touch of the ball just after half time.

UNDER 12s:

SPIRIT OF YOUTH 1 YMCA 2

It was the visitors which looked the stronger side right from the start controlling the midfield through Corry C, Fraser M and Liam R. Jordan B took a through ball, danced round the keeper and slotted the ball in the net for YMCA’s first goal. Shortly afterwards, Bishop grabbed his second after latching on to fine through ball by Jack D. In the second half Jack D was through on goal when he was fouled and he later hit the post with an excellent effort. Spirit pulled a goal back and were also awarded a penalty late in the game but Mathew M made a magnificent save to retain YMCA’s lead. Overall, YMCA were deserved winners in a hard fought game. The back-four of Keil F, Mathew R, Oliver D and Jack B defended well against some determined attacks by the home side.

UNDER 13s:

WARTON TYPHOONS 3 YMCA 1

YMCA started brightly at Bank Lane last Sunday and just edged the first half. Matthew N converted a spot kick midway through the half and this goal gave them a 1-0 lead at half time thanks to ‘keeper Tom N who made a fine save from a spot kick awarded to the home side. In the 2nd half though the superior physical strength of the home side gradually began to take effect and once they had levelled the scores they always looked the team most likely to win and two further goals gave them an eventual victory.

UNDER 14s:

YMCA 1 SPIRIT OF YOUTH 4

YMCA enjoyed the early pressure in this match against high flying Spirit of Youth at Seafield Road last Sunday, but the course of the game was transformed when the referee made a poor decision to award the away team a penalty. Goalkeeper Chamberlain, who impressed throughout, clearly pushed the ball away from the chasing forward whose momentum sent him sprawling. This gave Spirit the confidence they needed and they added two more goals before half time.

In the second half YM took the initiative and looked dangerous on several occasions. It was no surprise when YM scored and it was defender Sam S, who was superb all afternoon, who opened his account for the season. He hit a tremendous free kick which took a slight deflection off a Spirit defender but soared past a helpless keeper into the top corner. This was a fine all round battling YMCA team performance with the defence of Oscar R, Adam L, Joe K and Sam S particularly noticeable together with substitute Alex Yates.

UNDER 15s:

YMCA 0 BJFF 0

There may have been no goals in this encounter at Mythop Rd last Sunday but there was certainly no lacking in entertainment. It was end-to-end throughout but both defences were generally on top. Tom S's excellent performance in the YMCA goal was equally matched by a fine display by the visitors’ ‘keeper. Jon B and Nathan A both shone in the YMCA rearguard with Chris B and Jack C both working tirelessly in midfield throughout. Taz M was also notable as was 2nd half substitute Eddie J but in the end a draw was probably a fair reflection to a very sporting encounter played in excellent spirit.

UNDER 17s:

YMCA JUN 3 THORNTON JUN 1

YMCA were given a perfect start after only 3 minutes, when Sam T lifted the ball over the Thornton defender and crashed a left foot volley past the despairing keeper. There were then chances at both ends before Jamie G made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime, finishing powerfully from the edge of the penalty area. In the second half and playing into the wind, the YMCA defence remained resilient, and the game was perhaps put beyond the visitors with 20 minutes remaining when Matty R burst through, and despite having his first effort blocked, he won the ball back and finished neatly. Thornton scored a late consolation but this was another excellent win from a YMCA team that improves each week. Jack M was solid in an excellent YMCA back-four with Dan M leading by example in a hard working midfield unit.

UNDER 17s:

BJFF 1 YMCA SEN 1

YMCA created but squandered a host of chances in the 1st half of this encounter at Bispham last Sunday. They could easily have been several goals in front at the break but right on half time it was the home side who snatched the lead to go into the interval 1-0 ahead. YMCA continued to have the upper hand after the restart and were eventually rewarded with a superbly taken equaliser by Aron K but in the end they had to settle for just a point. Mark K and Tony W both impressed throughout for YMCA.

UNDER 12s:

GIRLS YMCA 6 BARNOLDSWICK BARONS 0

YMCA maintained their good form with an excellent victory against Barnoldswick Barons last Sunday. Stephanie V opened the scoring on 12 minutes finishing off a flowing move. Ruby L added a second mid way through the half with a drive from the edge of the area before Siobhan F notched a third just before the break with a superb finish and it was 3-0 at half time. In the second half Evie M scored twice before with Siobhan F completing the scoring with her second goal of the game.
