Known as Morbius

In his pomp, Morbius led the High Council of Time Lords but his intention to wield control over the cosmos contradicted Gallifrey's highly prized (but slightly suspect) policy of non-intervention. Livid at this rejection, Morbius assembled a vicious army to wage war on his own race. He was defeated, captured and condemned to death. Although his body was destroyed his brain survived and one of his fanatical followers, Mehendri Solon, kept the organ alive...

Morbius was deprived of his senses whilst Solon worked on developing an acceptable host body and head for his mad master. Funnily enough, Morbius went even loopier as he endured sensory deprivation and eventually demanded that his brain be placed in an artificial skull that was attached to a monstrous entity constructed from the body parts of several different creatures. In this frightening form he battled the Doctor who had stumbled across his lair on Karn, an inhospitable planet relatively close to Gallifrey. Morbius was apparently killed when fellow inhabitants of Karn drove him over a cliff.

Morbius (above left) appeared in The Brain of Morbius.
