Oooooo there's a lot of nostalgia for me in 1984. I was 11 and therefore just coming into my own musical awareness. I inherited my parent's record player (in a teak case) and could buy records of my own (they upgraded to a Japanese 'stacking stereo system' - v posh!)



On that basis and for the many, many hours I spent listening to 'Make it Big' my ARFO choice has to be

Yesterdee for me was a mixed bag cycling wise!!!!!!

Firstly in the afternoon a raised me seat... Been meaning ter do this for a while as although aready raised ave noticed watching the pros on tv their leg on full extension is nearly straight with the slightest of knee bend!!!!

Ave noticed am abit cramped cycling so raised me seat 4 inches more... Can nearly not touch the floor but no me leg is similar... Although still slightly more bent than the pros!!!!!!

Maybe a need a special bigger cycle for me lanky frame!!!!!!!

Anyway cycling now feels weird from what am used too.... But a guess yer getta bigger arc of the leg and thus more power!!!!!!!!

Also fixed me cycle computer that stopped working!!!!

Needed ter get me sensors closer so packed out me frame with abiita old car engine coolant 'ose!!!!!!

All working now!!!!



Then later a set off for work for the worst cycle ride of me life!!!!!!!!

5 mins inter me ride torrential rain against a strong wind.... A couldn't see where a was going with the rain in me face... cycling through puddles that a couldn't see where there.... A thought why am a doing this?????

Achieving nothing in me cycle training.... Except maybe the experience of learning not ter be stubborn and go out in crazy weather!!!!!!!



Go to work totally soaked through... Spent the whole of me shift with all me trianers and cycle clothes on the dashboard of me truck with the 'eater full on but with all the windows open!!!!!

Even drove up the M6 in me socks ter try and get them dry!!!!!!!!!



Then cycling 'ome in the early 'ours... OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatta difference.... Clothes dry and rain now gone.... A really good cycle 'ome!!!!!!

Near the end a relaised this is gonna be a MEGA time!!!!!!!!!

Normally a do it in 24 minutes ish... maybe 22 is very fast!!!!!!

Going in the mad rain and wind it took me 32 minutes... One of me slowest ever times!!!!!!

In fact a think it was me slowest!!!!!!!



Me fastest ever is 19mins 52.... A few months ago and a still don't know what came over me as 'ave not been able ter get anywhere near it!!!!!!!

But last night me second fastest ever.......



20 mins 39 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!



Maybe the new cycle postion really does make for a more powerful pedal action!!!!!!!????????????



1st note to self: NEVER cycle ter work in 'eavy rain... Get the.... train!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!



2nd note to self: ALWAYS keep an emergency spare pair of Bingo Star socks in me work locker!!!!!!!



3rd note ter self: When the BBC weather webiste weather map not only shows a continous band of blue and the blue is dark blue and in parts there's dark green to illustrate VERY VERY 'eavy rain... Do NOT even think of cycling!!!!!!!!



4th note ter self: End the notes ter self now before a forget them due to too many!!!!!!!!!

For my ARF Opener - One of me all time favourite songs that's a guilty pleasure but since they 'ad so many number ones with this song must be a guilty pleasure of many!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking forward even more to seeing The Railway Man next year, as Colin was here for 12 days with Nicole Kidman and I saw several of the scenes being filmed... and I had a nice hug from Colin, and I was thinking back to Mr Darcy and the lake scene!

Before I select an ARFO song from the year I left School does anyone of you knowledgable lot know why a Sammy tablet cannot open a hotmail account that is used on a laptop. The account is a Windows Live account if it helps. My moms other half bought one and is frustrated about not being able to log in his emails on the tablet?

You are all making me feel old - judging by the ages you have all given for 1984, I'm one of the oldest in this group. I turned 25 in October of that year. So, yes, I did just make the 50's (although on of my school friends only appeared with a couple of hours to spare).

#49 Jennie, I wouldn't know which album of Bellowhead to suggest because I'm a fairly recent convert to the band, thanks to Simon, Mike Harding and the Folk Awards show etc and I don't have any of their albums, but I listen to them online.



On their current tour they sing several songs from a 2010 album, 'Hedonism' and quite a few from their current one, 'Broadside'.



Why don't you check out some of the song titles, find them on YouTube, have a listen and see which you think your husband would like.



Their recent single from 'Broadside' is '10,000 Miles Away' and gets played a lot on the radio, also 'New York Girls' from Hedonism seems a popular song.... have a look at the listings here and choose some songs to listen to and check out the reviews for some inspiration.

I was 12 in 1984 and dearly loved everything about the music that year :-) You have all chosen some cracking tunes so I will be more than happy with whatever is played. Now all I need to do is get cherub dressed in time after her swimming lesson and rush to the car in time to hear it. Of course my usual method of listening to the opening 15 mins on the i-thingi later on, means I can SKIP the muppets (method in my madness).

Hello all!



Am an even more tickled lurker after yesterday's inaugural mensh (yes Gill you were right). Woo hoo! Makes up for my cowardice in not approaching our leader when he was on his Westcountry jaunt a fortnight ago. Just as well it wasn't this weekend your Lordship as you wouldn't have got very far on the train.



Congratulations to new grandparents and "how on earth did he get to 18" parents alike. Minilurker no1 will be 18 next year and it only seems 5 minutes ago his Dad and I brought him home from hospital, plonked the car seat carrier thingummy on the carpet in the living room and wondered what the devil to do next. Still must have figured it out somehow because he's now 5'11" and at 6th form college.



Was a bit underwhelmed with the top songs of 1984 according to W***p***a, but one which is worth a listen IMHO is

#65 Only some bloggers, Tickled Lurker. One of the great things about this blog is that we can hold diverse opinions without falling out. Personally, I love a bit of Queen - Master Bee is a massive fan, even though he was only 16 months old when Freddie Mercury passed away, and we went to see them earlier in the year (minus Freddie obviously, although he did put in an 'appearance' thanks to the wonders of digital film). And I've seen 'We Will Rock You' twice.

Meant to say earlier - much earlier - but I forgot. Flo #72 yes I knew that really - actually I will probably 'listen at a time more convenient' during my lunchtimes at work. I don't know what Mark King will choose for his 'tracks of my years', but if it includes Cream's 'I feel free' I won't be surprised. And he's bound to pay homage to at least one of the world's other great bass players - gosh, there are so many to choose from, I couldn't possibly hazard a guess. I'm actually getting quite excited about it...



My linguine just needs a couple of minutes before it's 'al dente'. And the sauce is smelling good!

Sal, you've done a marvellous job with those spots - so neat (I can see better now it's close up) - I'll try my bestest to keep them nice.



I'm still in a bit of a daze after my whirlwind week. I must calm down a little. It wouldn't do at all to have a flibbertigibbet on the throne, would it?



I shall partake of a little alcoholic refreshment to celebrate then retire to my bed early in order that I awake in good spirits, fit and ready to take on my regal duties.
