We're here listening to another radio station (it isn't rough). The adverts are very annoying (particularly one for PPI recovery), but we have another ex-Radio 1 Simon doing 'The Golden Years'. Sound familiar ? It's exactly the same programme our Simon used to do but with irritating promotional messages for double glazing, car sales, etc.



Takes me back to University days when Radio 1 did a stint in Nottingham and this 'other' Simon recorded a jingle for our campus radio - 'This is the University Radio Nottingham chart - bigger, noisier and ultimately much more vulgar than any other chart available...'

#26 Shona, yup me too. I think it's a commendable project. I assume it's all tied in with them wanting to make the archive available on-line. Some bands have ended up using recordings of gigs that fans have made from the audience to bring out retrospective live albums, so I'm sure that if they really push it hard they will recover loads of gems that they don't have in their own libraries any more.

Just had my online shopping delivery from the store where a flower lingers - absolutely brilliant and on time !!!!!!!!!! Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!



It makes a change to have nothing to complain about - I am fed up with having to moan at shops about their products,service etc. We have had 2 really positive experiences with online shopping orders this week - it can be done! Some stores need to buck their ideas up - people like myself depend on their services and I, for one, will use the stores which offer a decent service. So there!



Grump over - my friend is coming round for lunch today, as we are golf widows for the day, so I had better sort out something to eat!

Their later venture into Yes (named 'the Yeggles' by some) was also a fine album. I still have Drama on tape but sadly nothing on which to play it. Sort of fits today's theme.

Also reminds me of holding my cassette recorder up to the radio (or "wireless"!) (actually balanced on a pile of books), as it had a built-in microphone, and screaming at my mum or dad or sister when they came in the room talking.



To this day there are songs I hear on the radio which were on those tapes, and at the relevant part in the song I expect to hear my my mum saying "Tea's ready! Oh sorry."

Afternoon all! Have been out all morning - work experience. Just been reading back as I slurp down some soup. Children these days just don't know what they are missing. Five minutes on the laptop (or less) and their music is there. Unlike my parents, who got pestered by me for money to buy the latest single, I get pestered for money to buy small cards that will allow my children to download many songs with just a clickety-click of the mouse. No crouching by the radio for them on a Sunday afternoon with the bedroom door barricaded (hmm, sounds a bit dodgy) so that their mother wouldn't come in during the middle of a song and mutter "..if only you knew your O'level English texts as well as you know the words to those wretched songs you listen to...."



Right. I am going to go and hunt for one of my tapes and will sit mine down at the weekend and introduce them to what life was like when I was their age. Hoping not to get the same kind of eye-rolling response as I do when I sing along cheerily to Adam and the Ants on the radio...

Ps. A note for the Scottish blogger contingent - was mightily impressed earlier on as I waited in a supermarket car park. Watched a coatless man in a kilt and short sleeves stroll out through the rain, past the shoppers in their wellies and full length waterproofs. Upon arrival at his car, he reached into his sporran, fished out his car keys, unlocked his car and drove away. Cool.

Another memory...



Remember that agonising feeling when you were recording and you got near the end of the tape, and wanted to record the next song, but weren't quite sure whether there was enough space left, so you went ahead anyway, and then just about 30 seconds before the end of the song you heard that agonising "click" as the REC and PLAY buttons popped out at the end of the tape.



That's another category of songs I hear on the radio, where I'm not as familiar with the last 30 seconds - in my mind they just stop abruptly!

Mr Mayo probably was at Radio Nottingham in the latter days of my tenure at Uni Park, although I don't remember ever listening to that station. It was very much Tr*nt, URN or pirate Radio Lenton (broadcasting via the piping).

#83 - I had a similar experience last night when hearing Sam Cooke's Wonderful World being played on the show. Remember when it was re-released in '86 due to a certain jeans ad? (oh how we did swoon - well, until we played a game where we imagined our teachers playing the part in the ad - how we did snigger). Anyway, that was a song with an abrupt tape-end-induced ending, for me.

#64 9th December 1980, Southampton Geaumont, after the first song once the clapping had died down someone in the second row just in front of me shouted out "Bring Back Jon Anderson!" at the top of their voice. Sentiments I fully agreed with, although was too polite to shout out, and I did kinda whince for Trevor Horn as I think he was just a victim of something that would never work to most Yes fans' satisfaction.

Back again.... Just finished putting me lintel in and bricked up above a smuch as a could until the rain got too much!!!!!

And not quite the same thing, but related - there are a few songs around that I still expect to 'jump' at a certain point as my original version had a scratch on it...

As well as the problem of how much tape there was left and whether the record would fit, there was the problem of having to wind the tape forward with a pencil so that you didn't miss the beginning of a record. Could you find a pencil to fit? Never....

Jennie that is the absolute WORST song I have ever heard!!!



My owl is called Harry and a friend bought him for me as a pressie about six weeks ago and it's amazing how he stays balanced on that metal post, even when the wind has been blowing wildly when he has swung to and fro, he has never fallen off!



I like the music on the Stones' song but not the style of singing as it feels like to sing in that way for any length of time would give Mick a sore throat!
