Title Stop! Pumpkin thief!
School run completed, coffee in place, blog in process. Here's to a good Tuesday.
Halloween was a hit here with the exception of the thief/thieves who nicked our lit pumpkin. A thing of beauty it was too. It's hard not to feel mad when someone does something so petty and spiteful - so that's exactly what I'm feeling. An appropriate punishment would be to sweep our street of fireworks, crisp packets and dog business for a week. In pink overalls. And a fluffy tail. But I shall have moved on by the time you read this and will have become a model of forgiveness. I'm re-thinking my firework plans however.
Today we welcome Alexei Sayle who is part of St Mungo's Wooley Hat Day on Friday. Alexei and many other celeb types are auctioning assorted head gear in aid of the homeless. Hats belonging to Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello and Helena Bonham-Carter are up for grabs too (I don't have any as I look a fool, wrong shaped head you know). He's been more involved with writing in recent years with novels and short stories but he's always entertaining and Alexei will explain more after 6.
I think for the oldies we should do the story Rebecca mentioned yesterday; the 7 BILLIONTH PERSON on earth. No one knows which baby it was: Emily? Danica? Cin? Vinita? Cecilia? They'll all be writing books soon enough but THIS CROWDED EARTH is essentially where we are for this one. Your creativity will win the day.
Have a tip top and smashing Tuesday, see you after 5.

Somebody was saying that accelerated population growth in the last couple of centuries is the reason for our accelerated development on a technical level - more and more people in the world share bright ideas and encourage each other to develop them. Also, with more people on the the plant, there are likely to be more bright ideas.
In a glass-half-full moment, I like to believe that's a positive thing.

apologies for my tardiness in posting on here, but a few things going on at the moment which are causing me problems.
#64 and #65. As a scouser born and bred I have to read Bingo's posts at least 3 times to understand what is being said.
on the subject of trick or treat I got home at 6 last night and got inundated with trick or treeters and some only took one sweet where others spoilt it by taking 2 big handfuls of sweets and walking away without even a thank you and more fustrating was they left the gate open. in my opinion its gone too american for my liking. Rant over.
hope everyone is well and wish me well for a meeting I am having tomorrow.
Nick.

Firstly, for me the population thing is a really bad thing.... by the year 2054 my village of about 1500 people will have approximately 300 million in it. And we can't go on. So I am going to gloomily recommend:
WE ARE THE DEAD - David Bowie
("we're dancing where the dogs decay...")
On another front, thank you to those who wished me well with the exhibition at Theatre Clwyd yesterday. Having paid for a new central heating boiler, Mrs B&Bs birthday (no boiler jokes there) and a new clutch for the car in the last week it is all going to be rather important that a few paintings get sold! But unlikely - tough times etc etc. And thanks for the new friends on Facebook - happy to confirm with any of you!
So today is more plumbing, with me locked in the lounge with the dogs and an ironing board. Back to work tomorrow (joy). We have a new Facebook page for our little children;s book publishers - if you have kids, grandchildren or are just puerile like me, then happy to receive your company on Facebook at Award Children's Books! Hope that's not advertising - we won't try and flog you anything!
Yo Harry - where did you end up in Scotland?

#13 What a lovely thing to do, I'm sure you'll have lots of poppets calling in.
#15 Hope it all goes to plan Suzie and there isn't a Royal 'confession' moment!
#72 Thanks Julia :-D
#64 Second that!
#78 Good luck with the meeting tomorrow Nick.
For my fellow Richard Allinson fans, he is sitting in for Steve Wright today if you get a chance to listen :-)

I tried SO hard to post in here last night - but nothing I did made a difference and the blog police consistently refused to take my posts.
It quite upset me. I couldn't wish Alison and Micky Happy Anniversary. I couldn't hand out scarves and a hat. I couldn't give you news of Limericks ...
... if this works - I'll come back and do all those things
_____________________________________________________________
I couldn't say how good it was to see old friends [yes you B&B] and new.
I wasn't allowed to tell you what a great blog it was. I didn't hear the show so it was also great to get the lowdown on choons played.
I was unable to post my huge paragraph about the Serendipitous Re-aquaintance of Jennie and Mrs Boris [Tracey]. Gob-smacking.

LIMERICKS:
Spike, father of the blog and originator of the culture of 'blogpoppetry', has not passed this way for a little while. Quite a few of us are, however, in contact with him, via other means.
Last Friday I asked him if he'd be kind enough to peruse a cluster of Limericks [anonymous] and create a shortlist of 5.
He was delighted to do so over the weekend. All I said was that they should, broadly, be about Music. He commented that many were full of fun and wit bit didn't necessary follow the limerick 'form and rhythm' - so he was strict about all 3 elements [subject matter, limerick form, wit] before he decided:
The 5 he chose - in no particular order - begin thus:
The 80s just wasn't for me ...
There once was a singer called Elvis ...
Gary started a band called Take That ...
Us and Them On the Run - Speak to Me ...
Funk/Rock band Level 42 ...
Now to find an impartial judge!

I went to Aberdeen for a long weekend. I had to sell a few books to pay for the trip but the main objective was to get a break.
The weather was unusually kind.
Any red stickers on the paintings yet?

I can't blame people not buying, but hopefully a wealthy dentist looking to decorate his brand new five room surgery will pop by. He'd get the lot for under three grand. Not been to Aberdeen for years. BTW - going to back to the divine lesley Dncan appearance on Singer Songwriters at the Beeb the other week (currently up to having watched this about 3546 times in a two weeks!!) - did you see Kevin Ayers on the same show? I thought he was fabulous too. If I was going to release my inner woman, I'd say he was gorgeous and beautiful too, and why wasn't he a big star? Very like John Cale/Velvets. Anyway - I had better go and release that inner woman somewhere else. She's probably hungry...
