At our age
Well it's blowing a fierce one here. Wouldn't be surprised if we get some seaweed on the windows before the day is through (yes I would). No walking the estate this morning. If I had hatches etc. Well yesterday was a fine creative mess indeed. I'll explain more about our Jews harp man. Having decided to follow up the Jews harp wisdom from last Thursday, we found Peter Hope-Evans on-line as a noted harmonica and Jews harp specialist. We also wanted to play some Medicine Head as I remembered seeing them on TOTP with some harp action. I have to be honest however and tell you that I didn't realise Peter WAS the bloke from Medicine Head in the first place! His music sounded slightly clearer than his words I would say, but I loved the sounds he made. I think he had a good time in the 70s.
He would have been a contemporary of my guest today, the one and only Nick Lowe. Elvis Costello spoke passionately when he came on the show about the genius of Nick Lowe and that it was only his innate modesty that has stopped him being realised as the genius he is. He played once when I sat in for JW on his Sunday afternoon show and Elvis has it spot on. His new album is called 'At My Age' and he'll play live after 6.
And songs today please for DAVID WALLIAMS SWIMMING THE THAMES for sport relief. He had to don the wetsuit to replace his trunks as it was all too cold and was actually turning blue. So that'll do nicely!
So have a wild and stimulating Tuesday, see you after 5.

Now, Nick Lowe. What can you say about Nick Lowe. The man is a genius, and is woven , like a thread through the tapestry of what I've loved about English music for about as long as I can remember. Stiff Records, Brinsley Schwarz, Dave Edmunds, Elvis Costello, The Damned, all owe something to Nick Lowe.
Not just the Brits, though. Johnny Cash, if he were still with us would, I am sure, have a few good words to say. Even the genius that is Ry Cooder has fallen under Nick's influence. The man should be knighted.

#76 Toots, I actually did a beef casserole on Sunday, and I'm considering having a jacket potato for lunch - autumn has definitely arrived!

I don't remember it actually, but those old public service broadcasts always seem eversoslightly creepy in retrospect - especially the ones aimed at children.
Thanks chum - one click and I was engrossed for 20 minutes - some of the other links on that 'page' took me to places I'd forgotten ...

I'm hanging on in there with salad but have a sachet of powder that will convert into soup when added to the boiling water in my mug should I feel the need for something warming.

Just had the strange experience of having work colleagues turning up in a work of fiction. Not by name, but I'm reading 'Afterwards' by Rosamund Lupton and there's a bit where the main character talks about studies which show people in a coma responding to being asked to visualise playing tennis. Well, it was some former colleagues of mine who made that discovery!

I've got some proper tummy gyp today :( And after all the raw sewage talk too...
Does anyone recall, a while back we were chatting about the old variety acts, like Max Wall, Harry Worth etc We were discussing the various 'talents' of these folk, like funny walks, and banging their heads with tea trays?!
Anyway, I was chatting on-line to a Dutch friend of mine last night, and the conversation turned to ginger-haired men we had known and loved (don't ask!) She said that there was one particular ginger-haired fellow that she liked, he is a regular on the Dutch entertainment circuit, and she would send me a Youtube link of him doing his act. Well, I clicked on the link to see what all the fuss was about... It turned out that this particular chap's 'talent' was belting out Sinatra standards whilst seemingly trapped inside the wooden frame of a bar stool!!! Funny what passes for entertainment, isn't it?
#66 Katy - Happy Birthday to your 'not quite so new' person :)
