@Harry - yep! Although I only moved here in February 2010, having spent all my former 41 years in Essex/Suffolk, I met The One (on CLP's blog, as it 'appens!) and upped sticks to start a new life.



I really like it here - the people are definitely more friendly in this neck of the woods than out East. I'm getting to know Brum and think I actually prefer it for shopping over London. There's also loads of fab gig venues round here, and the tickets are slightly cheaper than dahn sarf.



The only cloud on my rosy horizon is work. I'm not happy in my job but can't land the job I know I can do/deserve. I'm currently seriously thinking about re-training in a completely different direction and starting my own business.



We went to The Chase on Sunday - had a lovely walk round and a cuppa in the cafe!

#38 I left the Midlands in 1974 and I must say I wouldn't go back. I still have two sisters who live there and I only visit a couple of times a year.



I know wthere are lovely people everywhere, and I hope I don't offend anyone, but I've found that, in general, the further north you travel, the friendlier people get.

Lucie's Mum - from yesterday's blog - sun in Edinburgh? It's only February, what's going on there? Joking apart, glad you had a sunny day tho'. I was born and brought up just north of the FR Bridge and find myself in Lincolnshire these days with no immediate plans to return to Fife. My situation will be reviewed once the GBs are all grown up. I have a friend living in Leith (which she affectionately refers to as Leithiopia).

@Deevs .... I've lived in Walsall, Redhill, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Warminster, Leeds, and now Carlisle, so I think I've done most of England.



Edinburgh is a beautiful city and, apart from the traffic wardens who are quite feral, it's a friendly place.

Deevs - Edinburgh is a must visit - it's beautiful. You should also be brave and head further north - definitely worth exploring.

#20 - Alex, Ha! That song always makes me giggle. There was a debate in the office as to whether one of the chaps wore a toupee. My friend and I, when debating whether it was or not, would end the debate my singing "What's that on your head? A WIG!?!" and dissolve in to fits of the giggles. We never discovered whether it was a wig or not as he moved on.

Toots - I think I need to see more of the UK. Last summer Nic introduced me to the delights of Gloucestershire when we had a week away in August, and it was beautiful. I've never seen the South West - I'd love to go to Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. I've only ever been to the Lake District once (Cockermouth, coincidentally), and the Peak District once (last Easter, again thanks to Nic).



We did book a weekend in Newcastle (Nic was based there for a time in his yoof) but we had to cancel as something else cropped up.

#72 I'm sure you'll have a fab time, Deevs. It's a grand city. I had the pleasure of visiting Manchester about 18 months ago with a lovely friend. We stayed with her Mum and we had a fab time. We shopped in the morning and went to see Blood Brothers in the afternoon. In the evening, we drove over to her sister's - she lives near Saddleworth Moor - a bit bleak as the weather was awful - would like to see it on a sunny day - I get the feeling it may still be a bit of a bleak place even on a sunny day. In a weird way, I kinda like bleak. I love going to the seaside in the middle of winter when the weather's rubbish.

@Harry - oooooh Cockermouth would have been in about 1995, just after I met the now ex husband. He used to do enduro 50cc bike racing and we went to a karting track (ex quarry?) in Cockermouth. It was a long way to go for 2 nights camping but at least he didn't break any bones on that occassion!



As for Newcastle, we booked a mini break .... not a literary festival or bookery!

Morning All,



It is very grey, damp and cloudy here, but it is feeling a little warmer. We have a wonderful song thrush that sings its little heart out all day from the top of a tree in our garden. It is really quite something to hear.



Not sure what to think of Nigel Havers. I remember him in A Horseman Riding By, which was rather good I seem to remember. But I was so disappointed when he took over the reins from Nigel le Vaillant in Dangerfield. Then he went into the jungle, and we found out that he doesn't 'do' electric shocks!



Deevs, I haven't discovered the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, have driven past the outskirts many times on the way to Cumbria. I must put it on my 'bucket' list!

I'm run ragged with my twins being on half-term hols, and we shall probably be sampling some of the day trips Simon mentioned, like trudging around muddy fields in search of some kind of kiddie entertainment!
