Andrew/MCW - I was brought up on the music of Lennon & McCartney, and althougth not to everyone's taste, it has seen me through to the ripe old age of 42. At 15, I did my O Level History project on The Beatles (much to the horror of my history teacher, but my argument that they did change the social scene won the day!), and when John was murdered in 1980, even though I was only 12, I sobbed and sobbed on hearing the terrible news.



Last November we had a blog meet in Liverpool and I instantly fell in love with the vibrancy of the city and the warm welcome we received. I spent some private time alone in the Beatles museum at Albert Dock, as well as taking a Beatles Taxi Tour with 4 fellow bloggers on the Saturday. To top it all off, 4 of us ended up in The Cavern on the Sunday afternoon, drinking beer and singing Beatles songs along with a fab fella on an acocustic geetar - he even invited Bingo and I up on stage to sing with him. We foolishly declined! (pics on FB is you feel the need ...)



I think had John been alive today, he would embrace technology whilst shuddering at the youth culture, the rap pap, the manufactuered pop we have in today's charts.

Deevs - we are exactly the same age and, like you, the Beatles' music was an important part of my formative years. I was out of time chronologically but they were certainly played at home, together with ELO (also mentioned above) and ABBA. A musical grounding which I've always thought has stood me in good stead.



I smiled at the mention of your O level project. I wanted to do my dissertation on the links between visual art and the Beatles. My tutor managed to dissuade me on the basis that, in his words, 'There's nothing new to say about the Beatles...'

Whats a girl to do eh Deevs?

When I was doing my O Level English Literature, we were asked to hand in our favourite piece of poetry. I copied out the lyrics to Lennon's Love, and was laughed at by my classmates. My English teacher, a lovely guy and fellow muso (friend of John Peel) commended my thinking for not going down the "classic" poet route and for realising that song lyrics are indeed another form of poetry.



Few phone calls to make then I think it's going to be a Beatles day on Poddypod!

Having spent ages last night watching and listening to various versions of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour doing "Fat Old Sun" (it's all Spike's fault!) on a well known video site I was going to suggest something like DG's "Blue Light" as a suitably noisy opener.



But instead For the ARF opener today could we please hear:



"Black Dog" - Led Zeppelin, which I think defines "noisy" quite nicely.



Beatles - don't really do it for me. I have the red and black albums as I feel I *should* have them, but they've been played maybe a couple of times. Perhaps if they were live albums ....... :-)

Can I please just say I'm afraid I agree with Mr Ken about the Beatles. I'm not a huge fan and have only 1 of their songs amongst my electronic music collection.

MTF - that's as bad as the giant man-eating frog in my garden last weekend. It terrorised me and almost had my leg off!!! Didn't have any C*rnett*s tho', self-medicated with a lie down in a darkened room with a damp edition of the Radio Times (other listings blah blahs are blah...).



KJ & MP - I'm on your side when it comes to The Beatles. I don't have any of their albums in any of my collections, vinyl, cd or electronic. Bit of a heathen eh? Thank you Deevs for being magnanamous - it is true, I agree. Having said that, I remember spending a rather enjoyable Saturday afternoon with my sis a few years ago listening and singling along to her copy of the red album. *New word for the dictionary alert - can you spot it?*



I bought two albums with my first week's wages from my weekend job - they were Blondie, Parallel Lines and Elvis Costello and The Attractions, Armed Forces. I thought I was very daring! I got them in the most wonderful wee independent music shop where my folks used to buy sheet music and their, amongst others, Jim Reeves and Kathleen Ferrier LPs. Said music shop is now a turf accountant's and I can't think of any music stores, independent or otherwise, in my home town now - v sad :(

Phew, I made it through the morning! 3 meetings and managed to finish off my project reports and send them to the Chief Exec ahead of schedule! Am I good or am I good? Another 3 meetings this afternoon and then a dash into ELH then HOME!!!

Afternoon from a windy but warm Liverpool.

My first cd bought with my own money was T'Pau - China in my/your hands.



Beatles. I am a fan, but when I was growing up my brother was into Elvis and rock and roll and in Liverpool a few years ago they had a travelling exhibition which I went to and seeing his cars, clothes and guitars brought chills down my spine, in fact thinking about it has the same effect.



Malcolm - good luck with the touring car stewarding, a big fan of it and looking forward to watching it on Sunday, I dont mind who wins apart from Matt Neal, but if I had to choose one it would be Jason Plato.

Anyway, for Billy Pepper and anyone else who's interested - John Barrowman was very good last night, in a Saturday tea-time entertainment kind of way. He's got a great voice - he can really belt it out when required. Deevs - you'd have loved his 'Copocabana', which he got the dancers to act out as he was singing it. And I love his macho campness, if that's not a contradiction. There was quite a lot of innuendo and banter going on with the audience. He clearly has quite a female following, of which I'd like to make it clear I am NOT a member. I like him, yes, but there are others higher up my list. Although the GD (who I'd dragged along, as Mr B didn't want to come) had a text from a friend who she'd told we were going, that said 'I do love your mum and her crushes!' I have no idea what she was talking about .... ;o)
