Colin Montgomerie's challenge is faltering slightly after the second round of the Volvo PGA at Wentworth.

The Scot shot a 71 to move to nine-under-par but after an untidy finish he trails Denmarks' Anders Hansen by two shots.

Argentine Eduardo Romero is in third on nine under with Zimbabwe veteran Mark McNulty and Spain's Carlos Rodiles locked on eight under.

1830 Zimbabwe's Mark McNulty mounts a late challenge with a 69 to join Spain's Carlos Rodiles on eight under.

1750 Montgomerie looked to have recovered well after finding the bunker with his third shot.

But he misses a relatively easy par putt for yet another bogey, and finishes with a 71 to go to nine under par

There was better fortune for Campbell, who birdied the last to finish on six under.

1735 Montgomerie is finding the going difficult and misses a birdie chance at the 17th to leave him one stroke behind Hansen with one hole to play.

1730 Faldo finishes his second round on a high with a birdie at the 18th for a round of 68 which moves him to five under for the tournament.

1720 Montgomerie ends up with a bogey - his second in a row - to slip back to ten under leaving Hansen as the outright leader.

McNulty claims his second successive birdie to move further into contention at eight under.

1710 Problems for Montgomerie as his tee shot from the 16th hits a spectator and goes into the woods. There is a delay as an ambulance is called.

Elsewhere on the course, McNulty moves onto seven under after a birdie at the 13th, while an eagle at the 17th takes Faldo to four under.

1650 Campbell has a stroke of luck at the 15th when he chips in from the bunker for a birdie.

The wind troubles Montgomerie as he bogeys the same hole to slip back to eleven under and a share of the lead.

1635 Campbell drops a shot at the 14th to slip back to four under.

Montgomerie maintains his lead with a par while Coltart is going through a bad spell dropping back with bogeys at the 12th and 13th.

1610 Montgomerie chips superbly onto the 12th green to set up another birdie chance which he converts to go to 12 under and take the outright lead.

1550 Montgomerie misses a long birdie putt at the 11th.

1540 Coltart comes agonisingly close to a birdie at the ninth but the ball fails to drop and he remains on six under.

Montgomerie also just fails to move clear of Hansen at the 10th and he must be content with a par.

Rodiles finishes his round of 67 with a par at the 18th and he is on eight under for the tournament.

1530 Montgomerie stays at 11 under after a par at the 10th.

1515 Montgomerie gets his third birdie of the day at the eighth to move onto 11 under.

Hanson joins him on the same mark thanks to a birdie at the 18th for a round of 65.

1510 Romero plays out of the drop zone at the 18th and claims a birdie to finish with a 68 and set the target at nine under.

Coltart drops a shot at the seventh after finding the rough off the tee.

1500 Anders Hansen birdies the 17th to go to ten under alongside Montgomerie who pars the seventh.

1450 Romero drags a short par putt left for a bogey at 17 to drop back to eight under.

1444 Scott is penalised two strokes for dropping his ball in the wrong place on the fifth and goes back to two under.

The Australian's ball was in a sprinkler head but instead of dropping it as close as possible he dropped it within a club's length.

1440 Montgomerie, pin high, dribbles his 10-foot putt downhill across the sixth green and safely makes the next one for a four. Campbell makes his par.

1433 Romero misses a birdie opportunity on 16 but stays nine under.

1420 Montgomerie slides a long birdie putt five feet past on the fifth.

But he calmly holes the one coming back to stay in the lead at 10 under.

1410 Hansen birdies the short 14th to join Romero on nine under.

1400 Romero narrowly misses a long birdie putt at the 14th.

Moments later, Colin Montgomerie has a birdie at the fourth to take the overall lead on ten under.

Montgomerie's playing partner Campbell moves to six under with a birdie at the same hole.

1345 Montgomerie pars the tricky third while Romero does the same at the 13th.

1330 Montgomerie gets his first birdie of the day thanks to a 12ft putt at the second to join Romero on nine under.

Hansen's amazing form continues with another birdie at the 11th. He now stands at eight under.

1315 Romero goes to the top of the leaderboard on nine under with an eagle at the 11th.

1300 Hansen joins Romero on seven under thanks to a birdie at the ninth.

Rafferty has a nightmare double bogey at the sixth and slumps back to three under.

Defending champion Andrew Oldcorn finishes with a three over par 75 to go to one under for the tournament while Olazabal drops a shot at the 18th and is on three under.

1245 Birdies at the fourth and seventh move Ronan Rafferty to five under par.

1235 Hansen is challenging Romero all the way as he picks up yet another shot at the seventh and to go to six under.

1215 Romero is the player in form with another birdie at the seventh and he is just one shot behind Colin Montgomerie.

1110 Romero birdies the third to move into second place on his own on six under.

New Zealand's Greg Turner joins the group on five under par after a birdie at the eighth.
