Monty slips back at Wentworth
Colin Montgomerie (left) found his ball in a bush after hitting a spectator on the 16th
Monty's ball bounced under a bush via a spectator

Colin Montgomerie relinquished the lead to Denmark's Anders Hansen at the halfway stage of the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Scot carded an ultimately disappointing 71 in the face of Hansen's seven-under-par 65 to move to nine under, two shots back.

Montgomerie finished the day in a share of second with Argentine Eduardo Romero who shot a 68.

Spain's Carlos Rodiles (67) was back on eight under with Zimbabwe's Mark McNulty (69).

New Zealand's Michael Campbell went round in 70 for six under, while European Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance (68) led a group on five under which included Nick Faldo.

Anders Hansen
Hansen moved into a two-shot lead

Montgomerie went out in 32 with birdies at the second, fourth and eighth and was in the outright lead at 12 under after 14 holes.

But he bogeyed the 15th and then hit a spectator with his drive on 16, the ball bouncing into the woodland to the right of the fairway.

The spectator was treated by medics but joked with Montgomerie before being taken to hospital for checks.

The Scot, clearly affected, went on to drop a shot before missing a birdie putt at the long 17th.

He also took an untidy bogey at the par-five last to slip back further behind Hansen.

Cool Hansen

The halfway leader began with a bogey but fired eight birdies to climb into the lead.

"It could be a very big weekend," said Hansen.

"I was better at keeping myself calm when I was moving up the leaderboard today."

Romero picked up two birdies on his front nine and eagled the par-four 11th before ending bogey-birdie for his 68.

Torrance carded three birdies on his back nine to climb up the leaderboard, while former Tour School winner Alastair Forsyth birdied the last three holes to move to five under.

Nick Faldo
Faldo eagled 17

Former world number one Faldo continued his recent run of good form with a 68.

He birdied three straight holes from 11, holed a long putt on 17 for an eagle three and then birdied the last.

"It was a great day," said Faldo. "I made some good holes and some mistakes and then just turned it on for a big finish."

More Westwood woe

Defending champion Andrew Oldcorn slipped back to one under after a 75.

The Scot was facing a fine after hitting a tree and breaking his club in a fit of rage.

Meanwhile, Jose Maria Olazabal carded a one-over 73 to slip to three under alongside Darren Clarke (71) and Angel Cabrera (71).

But England's Lee Westwood slumped to a 75 to miss the cut alongside, among others, Retief Goosen (74), Justin Rose (71) and Adam Scott (71).

Australian Scott was penalised two strokes for dropping his ball incorrectly at the short fifth when he was on four-under.
