Hansen had a blistering front nine

Anders Hansen stretched his lead to five shots in the third round of the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The overnight leader picked up six birdies in his first 12 holes, and added another on the 17th on his way to a 66.

Spain's Carlos Rodiles was impressive again following his second round 67, and leads the chasing pack just ahead of Eduardo Romero, Colin Montgomerie and a resurgent Nick Faldo.

Holland's Maarten Lafeber carded a five-under-par 67 to finish on eight under, sharing the best round of the day with Gary Evans before Hansen overtook them both.

1745 Anders Hansen misses a par putt on the last, but completes a magnificent round in 66.

The Dane made seven birdies and one bogey, and will begin the final round with a lead of five shots.

Eduardo Romero rescues his round in spectacular fashion with two eagles and goes into third place on 10 under.

1740 Carlos Rodiles holes a 10-foot putt for another birdie to complete his round of 68 and move to 12 under, three shots clear in second place.

Colin Montgomerie has to settle for another par and a disappointing 72 that sees him seven shots off the lead.

1730 Anders Hansen recovers from a poor drive on the 17th with a magnificent chip that almost brings an eagle.

The Dane holes out for his seventh birdie of the round to regain a six-shot lead.

Mark McNulty goes to nine under with his third successive birdie on the 18th.

1725 Carlos Rodiles moves to within five strokes of the lead with a birdie on the par-five 17th.

Colin Montgomerie misses his birdie putt, while leader Anders Hansen makes par on the 16th before a wild drive on the 17th.

1710 Nick Faldo birdies the last to complete a round of 68 and move into contention on nine under.

The leading trio look to have run out of inspiration, with none able to threaten a birdie on holes 15 and 16.

1652 Michael Campbell slips back to six under with a double bogey on the 16th after a wild drive.

1630 Nick Faldo moves up the leaderboard to eight under with a birdie on the 16th after missing a similar putt on the previous hole.

Anders Hansen makes his sixth birdie in 12 holes as his incredible round continues, with the chasing pack struggling to stay in touch.

1615 Michael Campbell briefly moves into second place on his own with a birdie on the 12th, but immediately drops one at the next.

Colin Montgomerie takes up the chase with a birdie at the 12th to move second on nine under, while Spain's Carlos Rodiles joins him with two successive birdies.

Peter Baker birdies the last to join the chasing pack on eight under, while David Gilford slips back to seven under with a bogey.

David Gilford joins him with a birdie at the 12th but Sam Torrance drops a shot at the ninth to slip back to six under.

1530 Montgomerie's problems continue as he bogeys the seventh to leave Hansen with a six-shot advantage.

Eduardo Romero picks up a shot to move into second place on eight under and a birdie at 12 takes Nick Faldo to five under.

1515 Hansen drops a shot at the fifth but birdies the sixth to move back to 13 under.

The lead grows to five shots as Montgomerie bogeys the sixth.

The lead grows as Montgomerie bogeys the third and Rodiles also drops a shot to go to seven under.

Lane picks up his fourth birdie in five holes at the 14th to move to six under.

Mark McNulty drops another shot at the third to slip back to six under and Paul Lawrie finishes with a 68 for a clubhouse total of five under par.

1415 Montgomerie birdies the second to close the gap on Hansen to one shot.
