Heather Watson went out at the quarter-final stage of the main draw of the $25,000 River Hills Women's Challenger event in Jackson, Mississippi. The 17-year-old lost 6-1, 7-5 to France's Claire de Gubernatis, who had previously beaten the fourth seed, American Lauren Albanese. Watson qualified for the main draw, beating eighth seed Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran of Bolivia 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. She beat Austria's Melanie Klaffner 6-1, 7-6 to reach the quarters. In the doubles, Watson and her partner, former junior Wimbledon and fellow Briton Laura Robson, were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by the number three seeds from Argentina Maria Irigoyen and Florencia Molinero 6-3, 6-0.
