Watson lost in straight sets to fellow Briton Georgie Stoop

Heather Watson failed to qualify for the main draw of her latest event, the $25,000 Sheriff Jim Coats 6th Annual Clearwater Women's Open in Florida.

Watson suffered a straight sets defeat to fellow Briton and number six qualifying seed Georgie Stoop 6-3 6-0.

The Guernsey 17-year-old only took part in the qualifiers after the late withdrawal of other players.

In the first round of qualifiers Watson beat the 13th seed Sheng-Nan Sun from China 6-2 1-6 6-2.
