Miami tournament will be the biggest of Watson's career to date

Teenage tennis star Heather Watson has secured a wildcard into the main draw of next week's Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event in Miami.

It is a huge break for the Guernsey prodigy, as the event is ranked just below a Grand Slam.

It is the biggest event of her career to date, and she will compete against some of the best in women's tennis.

The draw will be made on Sunday and Watson will play her first round match on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Her mother, Michelle, said: "There will be big points up for grabs too. With Heather's current ranking [487], the difference is if you win a round or two at this level you move hundreds of places, compared to ten or twenty places when you win the same number of rounds at ITF level.

"If Heather gets a good draw and makes it through the first round she could move up 100 ranking places and therefore closer to her ultimate target of being inside the top 200 by the end of the year."
