Jersey's forward pack dominated at Basingstoke |
Jersey Rugby Club continued their dominance in National League Three with a 53-19 win over Basingstoke. Five tries in the first half, from Sam Tuia, Ross Allan, Paul Rodgers, Ashley Maggs and Kern Yates gave Jersey a 31-12 lead after 40 minutes. Second-half tries from Ross Kenwright, Donovan Saunders and Talite Vaioleti meant the Island side continued their 50-point a game average. Jersey face fifth-placed Dorking at home next weekend. Island coach Ben Harvey was again impressed with his side's performance. | Terrific effort up front again, Ross Kenwright who was captain today lead by example and Jim Brownrigg in the second row was imperious |
"Terrific game today, the boys showed an awful lot of composure after we arrived at the ground late due to an accident on the M3," he told BBC Jersey. Jersey scored two quick tries but were inaccurate in the early stages and Harvey felt they were not as strong defensively as usual. "We weren't the strongest to start the game off and there were some pretty stern words at half time," he added. "They came out in the second half and we defended very well." Harvey said it was business as usual on the pitch with the forward pack dominating. "Terrific effort up front again, Ross Kenwright who was captain today lead by example and Jim Brownrigg in the second row was imperious." "In the line-out in particular I think he stole 90% of their possession." The win moves Jersey further ahead at the top of the table after second placed Bracknell dropped to fourth after losing to Havant.
