Also steered Saints to the 2001 Grand Final success in his first season in charge. The ex Illawarra half- back retired from playing after breaking his neck in 1983.
Began coaching career at Illawarra Western Suburbs before spells at Wollongong University and Illawarra. Joined Leigh Centurions in 1998 and took them from the bottom of Division One to fourth in his first season, winning Coach of the Year title.
