Sculthorpe: We just did not perform

It's the first final I've lost with Saints and it's an awful feeling.

We just didn't perform like we know we can.

Wigan started well and took their chances. We didn't and were made to pay the price.

Wigan may have had their critics but we never wrote them off.

Paul Sculthorpe

We were fully aware of their capabilities and were never going to underestimate them.

Our build-up had been fine, we certainly cannot have any complaints on that score.

Wigan were the best team on the day and deserved their victory.

It helps when you have a player like Kris Radlinski in your side.

To come out and win a Lance Todd Trophy after not training all week takes some doing but it's what we've come to expect of Kris.

Kris Radlinski of Wigan
Kris Radlinski was an inspirational figure

It just proves what an ultimate professional he is. He is a top bloke and a great player.

A lot will be made of the try that Keiron Cunningham had disallowed in the first half.

To be honest, I couldn't work out whether he had scored or not from the video replays on the big screen.

Keiron was confident he had touched the ball down but the referee said otherwise.

We were really pressurising Wigan at the time, so it could have made a big difference. But it's gone and so is the trophy.

More determined

There is no use dwelling on what might have been.

We've got to take the defeat on the chin and make sure we never forget this feeling.

It will inspire us in the future and make us doubly determined to avoid another reverse on the big stage.

We've got a big game Friday and the boys have got to pick themselves up.

We've got the Super League title to play for now.
