Paul Sculthorpe says St Helens' never-say-die spirit could give them the edge in Sunday's Challenge Cup semi-final against Leeds Rhinos. Leeds will be keen to put one over on us on Sunday after last year's semi-final defeat but they already know they cannot afford to relax until the final hooter goes. We were staring defeat in the face in last week's Super League game at Knowsley Road until Anthony Stewart came up with a last-gasp try.
But that's St Helens for you. We never know when we are beaten. It's going to be a whole new ball game on Sunday at the JJB Stadium. Expect a much more intense game played at a frenetic pace. It's a semi-final after all and there are no second chances. But we've been there before and know what it takes to win big games like this. We are prepared to go that extra distance and won't buckle under the pressure. We've also got a decent record at the JJB Stadium, which is a good omen for us. Last year's semi-final win over the Rhinos came at that venue while we have turned over Wigan on their own patch a few times as well. But we won't be taking anything for granted.
They are four players who can have an impact on any game. But we've got several key players coming back as well, namely Keiron Cunningham, Darren Britt and Peter Shiels. Then there's a guy by the name of Stewart. For those people who may not know much about him, Tony is a quiet lad with bags of ability. He's probably got the best feet in the club, in that he's quick with a neat sidestep off either foot, but he sometimes needs a kick up the backside to get going. If he continues to work hard, he can become a world-beater. |
