Leigh Centurions dismantled Russian rivals Locomotiv Moscow in the third round of the TXU Energi Challenge Cup on Saturday.

The Russian champions will remember their first ever Challenge Cup tie for all the wrong reasons after they were put to the sword at Hilton Park.

They played with spirit and endeavour but were not able to match the superior skills of the Centurions, who ran in 11 tries.

Centres Phil Cardoza and Damien Munro both scored twice before half-time and hooker Paul Rowley also ran in a pair of tries.

Australian stand-off Pat Weisner showed clever touches on his home debut for Leigh, while former St Helens forward Sonny Nickle scored his first try for the club.

Dave Alstead, Alan Hadcroft, Sean Richardson and Dale Holdstock scored the other touch downs, whilst scrum half Lee Sanderson kicked eight goals from 10 attempts and substitute John Duffy added another.

The bright point for the Moscovites was the diplay of Russian international second rower Robert Iliassov, who caught the eye with a series of penetrating runs.

Scrum-half Denis Nikolski missed an early kick at goal, while his teams' best try scoring opportunities fell to unfortunate winger Denis Mechov, who dropped a pass, and then failed to ground the ball over the line.

Centurions will now take their place in Monday's fourth round draw.
