Lance Armstrong briefly lost his grip on the yellow jersey as Dane Mickael Rasmussen won stage nine with a strong display of climbing.

Your Tour experiences and comments
I live in Mulhouse - the finish town for stage nine. I'm going to watch the stage from the top of Le Grand Ballon, then race home to be there at the finish.

The Ballon d'Alsace is a good one to cycle up if you want the mountain stage experience without having to scale a giant Alp or Pyrenean monster. Get booked into one of the campsites in the valley below. When I was there in 1997 Virenque-mania was at its peak and we were royally entertained by a man wearing what I can only describe as a polka dot boiler suit. Even at 11am in the morning, he had clearly had more than a few little green bottles of biere d'Alsace...
