Stage 13 profile
Robbie McEwen blitzed his fellow sprinters to take his third stage win of this year's race

Your Tour experiences and comments
This stage is set to end in Montpellier's football stadium - great place for a sprint and I'll be there cheering the riders for the first of my four stages.

We rode stage 13 from Miramas to Montpellier Apri 28. 2005. It is a great and beautiful stage for amateurs, too.

This is certainly nice flat country to take a cycling holiday around. But watch out for the heat - it's really baking hot at the height of summer down here. At least the riders won't have to tackle the Montpelier ring road at rush hour, which is how I started a cycling holiday around here after being dropped off by a coach by the main motorway junction! The main square in Montpelier is a great place to get a drink or something to eat at the stage finish - and it's sure to be really busy today.

I lived in Montpelier, between 1983 and 1984,and have visited on and off since then.Flat country will favour the sprinters but it must be stressed how hot it can get in July. The main square in Montpelier is the Place de la Comedie and you can indeed get a bite to eat and drink there.

I'm a Brit but have been living near Montpellier for five years and I've biked around the area a fair bit. It was great to see Lance limbering up for last year's Tour with a low key Languedoc event and then again in the Tour itself, as they whizzed by on a flat on their way to do Mont Ventoux. It's blazing hot usually, the sun can poleaxe you, so be warned. My tip: Hire a bike at "TAM" near the rail station and see Montpellier for yourself. The cafes on place de la Comedie are overpriced, I recommend a sprint up the small hill towards the Prefecture: loads of great nosheries around Place Jean Jaures. You get far more for your holiday Euro up there.
