Flyers captain Greg Streete top scored with 23 points |
Bristol Flyers have reached the final of the National Trophy for the first time in the club's history with an 83-76 win over Derby Trailblazers. Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: "It was a defining moment for our team. Derby gave us a strong game but I think we responded to the challenge really well. "Congratulations have to go to the players for their hard work and concentration," he added. The Flyers will now face Manchester Magic in Sheffield on 31 January. The game started with the Flyers taking an early 13-5 lead but Derby slowly chipped away at the advantage to level at 15-15 by the end of the first period. Two back-to-back three pointers at the start of the second period gave Derby the upper hand and they led by as many as 10 points halfway through the period. But Bristol fought back to regain the lead and go into the half-time break 40-38 up. The match remained very close until the final 10 minutes when the Flyers opened up a 74-62 lead before running out winners by seven points. Top scorers for Bristol were captain Greg Streete with 23 points while US import Doug McLaughlin-Williams added 20 points. The historic win for the Flyers made up for the previous day's league defeat by Leeds when Bristol went down 91-70.
