Bristol Flyers basketball team pulled off a dramatic 71-70 victory over last season's league winners Reading Rockets in front of their own fans. The Flyers trailed 24-20 at the end of the first quarter but sharp shooting from Doug Mclaughlin-Williams gave the Bristol side a 42-34 half-time lead. In the second-half Reading hit back and led 70-68 with just 10 seconds to go. Flyer's captain Greg Streete then stepped up to score three free-throws to earn them the narrowest of wins. Flyers head coach Andreas Kapoulas said: "A win versus defending champions Reading Rockets is an outstanding achievement for our new team. "This shows a lot about our team toughness and our players character. They really refused to lose." The Filton-based outfit followed up their league win with a 81-79 victory over Taunton Tigers in the National Trophy to make it through to the quarter-finals. The Flyers stormed into a 58-34 lead at half-time but then took their eye off the ball and were trailing 79-78 with less than a minute on the clock. It was American Doug Mclaughlin-Williams who sunk a big two-point shot from the corner to give Bristol their second win in two days.
