Loftman will play in the second tier of college basketball in America

A Bristol basketball player has been awarded a full scholarship to study and play basketball in the USA.

18-year-old Richard Loftman from Filton College will join Chadron State College in Nebraska in late August.

The 6ft 1ins point guard has also been a regular fixture for Bristol Flyers, who play in National League One.

Danny James, the director of basketball at Filton, said: "We are extremely proud of Richard's achievements in his two years in the basketball academy."

James added: "He has been a role model student on the court and in the classroom.

"He has positively affected the lives of other young players with his work within our development centre and community schools projects."
