Jersey's James Walker hopes to be a Formula One driver next season.

The 25-year-old, currently third in the World Series for Renault, believes he has what it takes to make it at the top end of motorsport.

He told BBC Radio Jersey: "I think if we can win this championship and talk to the right people then I'll be in Formula One next year."

Fernando Alonso and Heikki Kovalainen have graduated from the Renault World Series into F1.

Walker claims it has been hard to get where he is and is not resting on his laurels.

"It's been a lot of hard work, but it's now paying off and hopefully we can keep going," he said.

"If I win this championship then I get to drive the Renault F1 car in training, which obviously would be nice; I want to be Jersey's first F1 driver."

The next round of the World Series for Renault is in Budapest on 13 June.
