James Walker impressed in testing for P1 Motorsport

Jersey racing car driver James Walker looks set to sign with 2008 champions P1 Motorsport for next season's Renault World Series.

Walker impressed in testing with P1 and should sign with the 2008 championship winner Giedo van der Garde's team.

He told BBC Jersey: "Testing went as good as I could have hoped.

"The negotiations on the contract are going pretty well and I will hopefully sign before Christmas, which would bring some peace of mind."

Walker, 24, finished a disappointing 13th in 2008 but he is excited about 2009.

"If I'm winning races and lead the championship at halfway or at the end, then there's a Renault F1 test, so the prize is huge.

"If I'm sitting here this time next year as champion I've got a great chance of being in Formula One."
