Jersey Hockey Club's veterans have cruised into the second round of the England Hockey Veteran's Plate after beating Banbury 7-0 on Sunday. Despite a home draw the Island side had to play at Ashford in Kent as Banbury decided not to travel to Jersey. Peter Taylor opened the scoring after 30 seconds and Jersey were 4-0 up at half time with Jan Collins, Nick Taylor and Phil Norman all scoring. The Taylor brothers each got a second after the break along with Mark Bailey. Jersey, who reached the semi finals of the competition last season, will face Ipswich East Suffolk Veterans in the second round on Sunday, 1 February.
