Jersey's bobsleigh team of Will Golder and Kevan Crowell have been selected to join the Great Britain team for the Europa Cup.

They are one of two British crews who will compete in the final two rounds of the event at St Moritz and Cesana.

The event is designed for the best up-and-coming crews around Europe.

"The Europa Cup is the stepping stone to greater things," said their coach Colin Campbell, who represented Great Britain at the 1976 Winter Olympics.

And Campbell says he has high hopes for the duo, who were eighth in the British Championships at Cesana last month.

"I'm hoping they'll qualify through the Europa Cup for the World Junior Championships next winter or the winter after," said Campbell.

It is always achievable but it will require a great deal of commitment in terms of training and time to devote to the sport

"If they do well there they can qualify for the World Cup and then ultimately the World Championships and Olympics."

But Campbell says that those high aims will depend upon Crowell and Golder's commitment to the sport and the amount of funding they get.

"It is always achievable but it will require a great deal of commitment in terms of training and time to devote to the sport," Campbell added.

"There's also a big commitment in financial terms as it's an incredibly expensive sport in terms of equipment and places where the events are held."

The duo will race at St Moritz over the week of 18-25 January before moving on to Cesana, where the last Winter Olympics' bobsleigh was held, a day later.
