Walker's damaged car after his opening lap crash |
James Walker's hopes of getting points in the World Series by Renault were ruined when he crashed in the first lap of his opening race at Spa on Sunday. The Jersey driver had done well to earn 12th place on the grid for the first race through the new superpole qualifying session. But a crash at the first corner with Robert Wickens damaged his Fortec car's front suspension and ended his race. Walker began the second race in 26th place, he eventually finished 16th. Despite the result Walker says he was pleased to make the superpole qualifying stage, which sees the fastest 12 racers from the main qualifying session race off for the top 12 grid places. | I'm pretty gutted I didn't score points this weekend | "I was glad to see I had the speed to make it into the superpole," he said. "Unfortunately I then made a mistake in race one which put me on the back foot for race two. "I guess these things happen when you are right on the limit and that is where I need to be this year. "I'm pretty gutted I didn't score points this weekend but I can't wait for Monaco now as I know we can get a good result there," he added. Walker's next race is in Monaco on 25 May, he will be testing at Pembery in Wales ten days before.
