 Golden girl Johnson-Deeley finishes with three gold medals |
Jersey's Hugh Raymond was proud of his team's effort after they finished in 11th place with eight medals at the 13th Jeux des Iles in Majorca. Felicity Johnson-Deely stole the show for Jersey, adding the 800m and 3,000m titles on Saturday to the 1500m gold she won of Friday. Eighteen islands took part in the competition with Sicily finishing top. Raymond, Chef de Mission of the Jersey team told BBC Jersey: "They all did really well and it's great for Jersey." Shadine Duquemin also took silver in the shot put to add to the discus gold she won on Friday. Island athletics coach Andrew Winnie was pleased his athletes had finished with seven medals. "You know you can't ask for anything more, they produced it when they had to," he said. "Both Felicity and Shadine are class acts, they're going to go places." In the other sports, Laurence Carter was the best placed of the three Jersey sailors finishing 16th of 24 yachts in the boys' event. Josh Band reached the quarter-final stage of the individual table tennis, losing to the number two seed from Madeira. Gymnast Lisa Day reached the finals of the vault competition placing sixth of the nine qualifiers.
