Team Jersey at the 2008 Jeux des Isles in Guadalope

Elba has pulled out of hosting the 2009 Jeux des Iles due to a lack of funds.

The island, off the coast of Tuscany, needed to build a pool for the games, but Tuscan authorities have now decided to build the pool on the mainland.

Jersey's Chef de Mission Hugh Raymond is not worried, admitting: "As far as we're concerned it doesn't matter where it is.

"At the moment it looks like it will be in Sardinia. Although the longer it goes on the more the cost of flights."
