| Tuesday, 1 October, 2002, 22:11 GMT 23:11 UK Huddersfield 0-1 Burnley (After extra time) Substitute Dimi Papadopoulos celebrated his 21st birthday a week late by sending Burnley into the third round of the Worthington Cup. The Greek Under-21 player struck 13 minutes into extra-time latching onto Tony Grant's slide rule pass to slot calmly past Huddersfield goalkeeper Scott Bevan. Despite a goalless first 90 minutes both sides created hatfuls of chances to set up a pulsating end to the match. But Huddersfield, without a goal to their name in nearly 10 hours of football, saw their wretched form in front of goal continue for a fifth straight match. With the seconds ticking away Huddersfield almost snatched a late equaliser when centre-half Nat Brown's powerful 30-yard effort cannoned off the post. But with the goal at his mercy Jon Stead's follow-up effort was somehow kept out by goalkeeper Marlon Beresford. With the final chance of the match Danny Schofield held his head in his hands as his last minute effort was blocked by Beresford once again. Huddersfield: Bevan, Sharp, Brown, Dyson, Jenkins, Baldry, Mattis, Holland, Schofield, Smith, Stead. Subs: Senior, Gallacher, Macari, Thorrington, Scott. Burnley: Beresford, Gnohere, Stephen Davis, Cox, McGregor, Alan Moore, Briscoe, Grant, Blake, Ian Moore, Taylor. Subs: Cook, Payton, Papadopoulos, Armstrong, Branch. Referee: G Laws (Tyne & Wear) |
