In the absence of other obvious candidates, Ganga has been allowed an extended opportunity at the top of the West Indies batting order but has so far failed to shine. His highest Test score, an innings of 89 against Zimbabwe a year ago, epitomised his talent.
While Ganga played a patient, technically correct innings, opening partner Chris Gayle blazed to 175 in a partnership of 214.
However, the Trinidadian has yet to stamp his individual mark on the side, having managed just three half-centuries in 17 Tests going into this series.
He was dropped for the final Test of West Indies dismal tour of Australia two years ago after averaging 13.37 in four matches.
However his form coming into this series was good, with 722 runs at an average of 51.57 in the West Indies first-class competition.
