Selectors delivered Sarwan a clear vote of confidence by awarding him the vice-captaincy.

It shows he is regarded as leadership material, but it is also reflective of the stealthy progress Sarwan has made as a batsman.

The diminutive Guyanese right-hander made an unbeaten 84 on debut, but his form dipped when he was roughed up by Australia later that year.

After making a pair of ducks in the first Test, Sarwan made two and one in the next before being dropped.

But the 22-year-old recovered from the set-back and scored his maiden Test century in Bangladesh in December last year.

Sarwan has batted at six for the majority of his career, but the maturity he showed at four in the World Cup suggests that is his rightful slot.
