Unable to dislodge incumbent Keith Hibbert in the Jamaica side, Baugh has nevertheless gained a chance to shine via the West Indies B team, which plays in the domestic competition.

And he gained an opportunity to step up to the highest level after a 2003 campaign in which he not only took 15 catches but was also his side's leading batsman, with 486 runs.

Baugh was undaunted by his first sight of the Australian tourists, taking 16 off a single over from leg-spinner Stuart MacGill for a Guyana Board XI in a warm-up match.

It was a warning of things to come as he hammered a superb unbeaten 115 in the second innings as they came within 40 runs of pulling off a shock win.
