York thrash Driffield by 226 runs

YPL Trophy and Marcus Wood
York have won the YPL Trophy three times under skipper Marcus Wood

Dan Wilson scored 151 for Yorkshire Premier League champions York as they thrashed Driffield by 226 runs to stay in contention for another title.

York piled up 353-3 declared at Kings Mill Road, with both Simon Mason and Duncan Snell scoring 82.

Driffield were dismissed for 127 in reply, with Daniel Woods taking 5-49 and Alex Renton 3-29.

Scarborough won their seventh game in a row with a four-wicket victory at Appleby Frodingham.

But the Scunthorpe side put up a good fight, setting a challenging 232-7, with Piet Rinke taking 3-69 for Scarborough.

In reply Ashley Lyth top scored with 73 as Scarborough reached 184-5, leaving themselves nine overs to score the last 49 runs.

Spinner James Finch hit a vital 46 not out to see Scarborough over the line with five balls to spare.

Frodingham's partners near the bottom, Harrogate, made no ground after another narrow defeat, this time at home to Barnsley by 25 runs.

In a match reduced to 35 overs per side, Barnsley posted 178-4.

In reply, Harrogate moved into the seventies for the loss of only one wicket, but a gradual collapse followed and they perished for 153 off the first ball of the final over.

Frustrated Harrogate skipper John Proud told BBC York: "It's like last season, we were 20 runs off the pace. We're good enough to be winning these sorts of games."
