York have won the Yorkshire Premier League three times in five years |
Yorkshire Premier League champions York completed a belated double with a six-wicket win over Castleford in the League Cup final held over from 2008. Castleford made 210-8 from their 50 overs, Nick Kay taking 3-30. York overhauled the total in the 49th over. York's Dan Wilson, who scored 74, told BBC Radio York: "I was pretty happy and it's another trophy in the cabinet. "We weren't sure how to feel, in a way it was a bit like a pre-season friendly even though it was a cup final." The Australian, who played for South Brisbane during the British winter, was very pleased to be in the runs on his return. "I hadn't played much cricket for the last six weeks since our season finished at home," he said. | A few of the boys went out and celebrated but I went home to bed |
"It would have been nice if it had been at the end of last season, but I suppose there's plenty of worse ways to start the season than with a cup final win. "It was a pretty good result for us to start the summer. From a personal point of view it was great to start the summer with a bit of sunshine. "After last year, where basically it rained for most of the second half of the summer, I think a few of our boys were really happy to get out in the sun and play cricket. "A few of the boys went out and celebrated but I went home to bed because I'd only got off the plane a couple of days earlier and I was pretty tired." York begin their defence of the Yorkshire Premier League title on Saturday with a trip to Sheffield Collegiate. "The league is definitely the big one, we're pretty keen to win that," Wilson added.
