The Clifton Park club are aiming for their third title in five years
Castleford have drawn level with York at the top of the Yorkshire Premier League with just two games to go, after both sides won on Saturday.
Castleford took the full eight points against Sheffield United, but York took only six because they could not dismiss Sheffield Collegiate.
York's Nick Kay scored 77 of their 277-8 but Collegiate held out to close on 170-9 despite Alex Renton's 4-22.
Castleford now go above York because they have more complete victories.
York skipper Marcus Wood was unimpressed by Collegiate's approach to the game.
It's just like we've got two cup finals to play
York skipper Marcus Wood
He told BBC Radio York: "Clearly the opposition came today to do nothing, to get no points whatsoever, but to stop us getting eight, which is why we all came in a bit deflated.
"From ball one they didn't even try to get anywhere near the total and for me, you play cricket to win.
"It's been the case for three or four games that we needed one wicket to get the full eight points off probably the last three overs, which is not very much time to get it."
Much could happen next week when Castleford play Rotherham, who could include Yorkshire batsman Joe Sayers, while York go to Scarborough on the Sunday.
"There are two derby games left in the league, it's just like we've got two cup finals to play," Wood added.
James Finch's 30 runs and a haul of 4-61 proved to be in vain, as Scarborough's recent slump continued with defeat at Hull by 86 runs.
Harrogate suffered another heavy defeat, losing at Driffield by 141 runs.
Driffield posted 286-9 and Harrogate were dismissed for 145.
