A hat-trick from all-rounder Nick Kay was not enough to save York from defeat at Driffield by 35 runs. York reduced Driffield to 6-2 and had a strong LBW call turned down for 6-3, but Driffield rallied to post 200-9. In reply York collapsed to 41-5 before Graeme Tomlinson and Marcus Wood put on a sixth-wicket partnership of more than 100, but York ended on 165 all out. York's lead at the top of the Yorkshire Premier League is now down to six points over Castleford. Scarborough moved back up to third place on 90 points, 13 behind York, after a six-wicket win at home to Sheffield United. James Finch took 4-24 and Simon Tennant 3-30 as United were dismissed for 113. United were not helped by the absence of an opening batsman whose car had broken down. Skipper Darren Harland led the way with 36 as Scarborough replied with 114-4. Bottom club Harrogate's woes continued with a nine-wicket defeat at Sheffield Collegiate. Teenager Dan Allen scored 68 of Harrogate's 195 all out, with Peter Turnbull and Nadeem Khan taking five and four wickets respectively. Nick Gaywood's 105 not out ensured a comfortable win for Collegiate, who ended on 196-1.
