Lawson has to maintain his lead for four more races |
Richmond driver Robert Lawson still leads the SEAT Cupra Championship with just four rounds remaining. He managed two second places at Knockhill last weekend and is 14 points clear of Jonathan Adam in second. Lawson said: "I think we've got to go home very pleased. We've got a bag full of points. "To be fair it was always going to be very difficult. I think it's whoever gets the car working under them on the day gets the edge really." Although he was happy with the results Lawson felt he still could have performed better. | I'd have rather have been a huge lead in front but at the same time it does add some excitement to it and it puts a smile on your face thinking about it |
"We were good in testing and we managed to have the edge in the test session. Saturday was very close. "The first qualifying session and possibly I didn't do quite as good a job as I could have done in the second qualifying." Lawson said every mistake was costly on a track he is not familiar with. "It's very technical. To be honest there're very quick corners one after the other. "If you make a mistake on one corner it can mess up the next two which is probably a little bit unusual on a lot of circuits. "If you get a section wrong here it certainly can mess up the whole of that sector. "It's important to try to not make any mistakes and be consistent with what you are doing." Lawson is now looking forward to the penultimate rounds at Silverstone over the weekend of 30-31 August. "I'd have rather have been a huge lead in front but at the same time it does add some excitement to it and it puts a smile on your face thinking about it - thinking you've still got another two meetings to go which is good."
