Lawson is in his first season in the championship |
Richmond driver Robert Lawson has extended his lead in the SEAT Cupra Championship to 28 points. Lawson won his fifth race of the season on Sunday at his local track at Croft in difficult weather conditions. He said: "I was in the position that I needed to be in. I had to make sure that I stayed there." "Conditions were difficult and there was a lot of standing water and it was a case of really just trying not to make any mistakes." Despite Croft being Lawson's home track he said local knowledge had not made any difference. | I'm chuffed to bits for the team. They've done a fantastic job with the car and we've done very well |
"I haven't driven round here in the wet before and it was the same for everybody. "It was a good thing we started behind the safety car. It gets you to pick where the standing water is so that you can avoid it when the race gets underway. "There's times when the car's slipping and sliding but I was in a position that I needed to be in. "We were comfortable with what was behind us so I'm chuffed to bits for the team. "They've done a fantastic job with the car and we've done very well."
