Lawson gets off to winning start

Seat Cupra car

Richmond driver Robert Lawson is leading the Seat Cupra Championship after the first two rounds of racing at Brands Hatch.

The 30-year-old, from Barton, finished first and second to top the standings by seven points.

He told BBC Radio York: "I got an absolutely awesome start.

"I can't ask for any more than a first and a second. That's put a massive amount of points in the bag and it's absolutely fantastic."

It is Lawson's first season in the Championship after previously driving in the Renault Clio Cup so he says he is not getting too carried away at the moment.

He added: "It's only early days yet. There's another nine more meetings to go. Obviously it's shown there's a lot of people out there with some pace and its not going to be an easy championship at all."

The next round is at Rockingham from 11-13 April, where Lawson is expecting some tough competition.

"People go to different circuits and people's pace changes," he added. "The next round is at Rockingham and I think last year Carl Breeze was on pole, so I would expect him to be very quick."
