I finished fourth in both the 400 and 800m at the 2002 World Championships and I thought maybe I was going backwards as an athlete. But I made the decision to concentrate from then on the 800m and it proved to be the right choice. I raced in a demonstration 800m event at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2003 and it was one of the strangest races I've been involved in. Dominating and controlling races has always been one of my strengths, even if I'm not the fastest athlete, and Birmingham was the ultimate sign of that. I went to the front and then eased off and slowed the pace down to a jog for the first lap and then at the bell I started to wind it up and from 200m out I sprinted to win. Although I'm always embarrassed when I look back at the race, it was the start of me learning how to control the distance.
