My first Paralympics was Sydney in 2000 where I ran the 400m and won bronze, which I was disappointed about. I think the occasion got to me and I made mistakes which cost me. To me bronze was a failure. It took me a couple of years to look at the medal and accept that being number three in the world wasn't too bad. But I think that was what drove me on. The Games itself was an enjoyable experience. When you go to your first Paralympics you don't realise how big it is. By the time Athens came around, there was more expectation and pressure on me. I'll always remember sitting around with Tanni Grey Thompson drinking copious amounts of coffee and chatting about mundane things in life. In 2001 I did my first 800m and I ran sub-two minutes and it became apparent that the longer distance was the way forward for me.
